Author Description

毕飞宇，1964年1月生于江苏兴化，现为南京大学教授。
20世纪80年代中期开始小说创作，著有《毕飞宇文集》四卷（2003），《毕飞宇作品集》七卷（2009），代表作有短篇小说《哺乳期的女人》、《地球上的王家庄》，中篇小说《青衣》、《玉米》，长篇小说《平原》、《推拿》。《玉米》，哺乳期的女人获首届鲁迅文学奖，《玉米》获第三届鲁迅文学奖，ThreeSisters（《玉米》《玉秀》《玉秧》英文版）获英仕曼亚洲文学奖，《平原》获法国《世界报》文学奖，《推拿》获得第八届茅盾文学奖。

Book Abstract

在我看来，小说想写什么其实是不着数的，对一个作家来说，关键是怎么写。作为一个伟大的小说家，蒲松龄在极其有限的1700个字里铸就了《红楼梦》一般的史诗品格。读《促织》，犹如看苍山绵延，犹如听波涛汹涌。这是一句套话，说的人多了。我们今天要解决的问题是，苍山是如何绵延的，波涛是如何汹涌的。

施耐庵的小说很实，他依仗的是逻辑。但是，我们一定要知道，小说比逻辑要广阔得多，小说可以是逻辑的，可以是不逻辑的，甚至于，可以是反逻辑的。曹雪芹就是这样，在许多地方，《红楼梦》就非常反逻辑。因为反逻辑，曹雪芹的描写往往很虚。有时候，你从具体的描写对象上反而看不到作者想表达的真实内容，你要从“飞白”——也就是没有写到的地方去看。所谓“真事隐去、假语存焉”就是这个道理。好，我们还是来谈“走”路，看看曹雪芹老先生在描写“走”的时候是如何反逻辑的。

我真正想说的是另一件事，一个真实的小故事。就在前几天，一位朋友看了我在《钟山》上的专栏，特地给我打来了一个电话。他问了我这样一个问题：你把别人的小说分析得那么仔细，虽然听上去蛮有道理，但是，你怎么知道作者是怎么想的？你确定作者这样写就一定是这样想的么？
我不确定。作者是怎么想的和我又有什么关系呢？我不关心作者，我只是阅读文本。
为了证明我的观点，我补充说，——我也是写小说的，每年都有许多论文在研究我的作品，如果那些论文只是证明“毕飞宇这么写是因为毕飞宇确实就是这么想的”，那么，文学研究这件事就该移交到刑警大队，警察可以通过审讯作者来替代文学批评。常识是，没有一个警察会这么干；没有一个作家会在文学审讯的记录上签字。
小说是公器。阅读小说和研究小说从来就不是为了印证作者，相反，好作品的价值在激励想象，在激励认知。仅仅从这个意义上说，杰出的文本是大于作家的。读者的阅读超越了作家，是读者的福，更是作者的福。只有少数的读者和更加少数的作者可以享受这样的福。
所以，关于《项链》，我依然有话要说。我所说的这些莫泊桑也许想过，也许从来就没有想过。

《小说课》后记
这本书里的大部分篇章都是2015年《钟山》上的专栏，这是我的第一个专栏。我惧怕专栏，那种倒计时的日子我一天也不想过。2014年的年底，我之所以答应《钟山》的主编贾梦玮，那是因为2013年我去了南京大学了。我有了一些讲稿，手里有粮，心里就不慌。
我要感谢南大，南京大学没有逼着我上课，只要求我每学期开些讲座。讲座不是课堂，更不是课程，准备起来要容易得多。我的重点是文本分析，假设的对象却是渴望写作的年轻人。这个假设是什么意思呢？其实就是分析的方法。分析有多种式样，有美学的分析，有史学的分析，我所采取的是实践的分析，换句话说，我就是想告诉年轻人，人家是怎么做的，人家是如何把“事件”或“人物”提升到“好小说”那个高度的。老实说，我做实践分析相对来说要顺手一些，毕竟写了那么多年了，有些东西是感同身受的
作品是作家写的，一个人要成为一个作家，从“构成”这个角度来说到底需要哪些要素，这个也没有固定的说法。“国际上”通行的说法是，性格、智商、直觉和逻辑。说到这里我的话其实也就说明白了，我在讲解小说的时候，大部分时候围绕的就是作家四要素。它是不是合适？我不知道。我所知道的是，它也许比“时代背景”――“段落大意”－－“中心思想”更接近小说。是的，我渴望年轻人更接近一些。拿着望远镜去阅读小说，我们很可能什么都看不见。
突然想起了一句话，“一千个读者就有一千个哈姆雷特”。这句话好。“一千个”读者不可能只有“一个”哈姆雷特。文学从不专制，它自由，开放，充满了弹性。但是我也想强调，“亿万个”读者同样不可能有“亿万个”哈姆雷特。文学有它的标准和要求。我渴望我的这本书可以抵达文学的千分之一。
附带着回答两个问题：一，有人问，你的讲稿为什么只谈短篇小说而很少涉及中长篇呢？这是由讲座的特性决定了的。一次讲座只有两个小时，时间很短，我以为分析一篇短篇小说是合适的。二，也有人问，你怎么就那么罗唆？人家的小说只有一千多字，你怎么能一口气说上一万多字的呢？这也是由讲座的特性决定了的，一次讲座有两个小时，时间很长，我总不能说“这篇小说好，非常好”，然后就走人。
