本书以1895年杭州开埠为起点，对整个晚清民国时期杭州对外贸易发展进行了研究，分析了这一时期杭州的自然和社会历史背景，阐述了杭州对外贸易发展情况及特点，探讨了杭州对外贸易发展的地缘化倾向等。同时，本书特别是将杭州开埠前与开埠后贸易状况、海关进出口贸易与同时期开放的其他海关贸易状况等进行了系统比较分析，再现了晚清民国时期杭州对外贸易的发展脉络，及这一时期杭州社会的变迁历程，为我们进一步拓展深化杭州民国史研究、认清历史演进内在规律提供了新的视角和依据。
Author Description

马丁，现为杭州师范大学人文学院历史系教授，硕士生导师。美国普渡大学、法国巴黎第九大学高级访问学者等。主要从事历史学科和旅游学科的教研任务，其研究方向：一是贸易史以及丝绸之路研究；二是中立国现代化进程以及中外近现代关系史方面的研究；三是旅游资源规划开发方面的研究。曾主持多项国家、省、市级规划和重点课题等。其中《瑞士现代化进程研究》、《民国时期浙江对外贸易研究》先后获得省十四届、十七届社科奖。
