《宏观经济学（第19版）》是2010 年出版的Macroeconomics 19 版的中译本。它几乎凝结了萨缪尔森先生主要的宏观经济学思想。
全书共四编17 章：包括基本概念、现代混合经济、供给和需求的基本原理、宏观经济学概述、经济活动的衡量、消费与投资、资本、利息与利润、货币与金融体系等。在保持“把注意力始终放在经济学的基本概念和核心理论”这一风格的前提下，本书对货币和金融体系、货币政策与经济、开放的宏观经济等做了重点论述或重写，对前言的理论与实践、汇率对不同国家的影响，以及现代混合经济做了全新论述。

Author Description

保罗·萨缪尔森（Paul A. Samuelson），毕业于芝加哥大学和哈佛大学，是麻省理工学院经济学系的创始人。他的许多著作使他在年轻时就赢得了世界性的声誉。他于1970 年获得诺贝尔经济学奖，是美国个获得此项大奖的经济学家。萨缪尔森教授曾长期为美国《新闻周刊》的经济学栏目撰稿，曾担任美国总统约翰·肯尼迪的经济顾问，属于那种能够同普通民众进行交流和沟通的为数极少的科学家之一。萨缪尔森常出席国会听证，并为联邦储备、财政部、许多私人机构和非营利机构担任咨询专家。除了在麻省理工学院做研究工作和经常打网球之外，萨缪尔森教授还是纽约大学的客座教授。他的６个孩子（包括一次三胞胎）为萨缪尔森家族衍续了15 个子孙。

威廉·诺德豪斯（William D. 萧琛，北京大学经济学院教授、博士生导师。1978~1985 年在北京大学经济学系获学士和硕士；1987~1989 年获世界银行全额奖学金，在美国马里兰大学经济学系攻读博士课程，曾应聘任世界银行顾问（consultant）；1991 年回母校任教，1992~2004 年初担任国际经济系主任；现任北京大学社会科学学部学术秘书、《北京大学学报》编委会主任助理、北京泛亚太经济研究交流中心主任、联合国教科文组织转轨经济教育顾问。讲授《世界经济》、《美国经济》、《公共部门经济学》、《市场企业和产业组织》等课程。曾参译《国外经济学论文选》和《帕尔格雷夫经济学大辞典》，曾主译《美国总统经济报告》和萨缪尔森第16、17、18 版《经济学》。著有《美国微观经济运行机制》、《全球网络经济》、《信息网络经济的管理与调控》、《世界经济转型与中国》、《“新经济”求索与应对》、《论中国经济改革》、《效率、公平与深化改革开放》、《财税政策模型与数据库》等。

Book Abstract

金融部门是一个将商品、服务和国内外金融市场联结起来的经济循环系统。为了消费和投资，家庭和企业需要经由货币金融体系进行相互借贷。人们可能会借入或者贷出资金，因为他们的现金收入时常与他们的意愿支出不匹配。例如，学生一般都会有超出他们现阶段收入的学费和生活开支的消费需求。他们通常通过学生贷款筹集超额开支。同样，双职工家庭可能通过购买股票或债券，将部分收入储蓄起来以备日后退休时所需。可见他们实际上是在为退休金而融资。
与金融相关的活动发生在金融系统中。它包括市场、企业和其他机构，执行家庭、企业和政府的各种金融决策。金融系统的重要组成部分包括货币市场（将在本章后面讨论）、固定利率的债券或抵押贷款等资本市场、能取得公司所有权的股票市场，还有交易不同国家货币的外汇市场。美国绝大多数的金融系统由旨在盈利的经济实体组成，但是非营利性的政府机构，如联邦储备系统和其他监管实体等，在保证金融系统的有效性和稳定性方面也起着特别重要的作用。
