《纺织大国崛起历程（1949-2014）》收录的60来篇文稿，记录了纺织工业系统在新中国成立后四五十年间，群策群力，艰苦奋斗，将这个庞大的传统产业部门一步一步推向世界前列的史诗般的历程。笔者在纺织工业部虽处在业务工作岗位，但在文稿起草中时常涉及一些经济理论问题。收录在《纺织大国崛起历程》卷中的文稿，还有一部分是经济研究类作品，其中，较有分量的有写于2009年的《超过了人们原先最乐观的预期——新中国纺织工业的历史性大跨越》、成稿于1981年的中央党校演讲稿《新中国纺织工业的三十年》、《中国纺织工业现状和展望——20世纪80年代初中国纺织工业面面观》。这几则文稿，由于对中国纺织工业发展的历史过程和历史经验有一些带创见的理论概括，可能更有“以史为鉴”的存世价值。

Author Description

陈义方，1927年生。原籍浙江舟山，生长于上海，大半生居于京师。初习“工商管理”，后攻“工业经济”，从“谋生手段”到“服从革命需要”到立志“工业报国”，终生从事纺织工业。从1949年5月底作为“上海市军管会轻工业处第三军事代表组”成员进入纺织工厂算起，经历棉纺织厂基层管理岗位至今，纺织工业领导机关工作岗位46年，亲历新中国纺织工业基础建设30年艰辛过程，亲历“纺织大国”崛起全过程。离休后有幸继续分享“建设纺织强国”的喜悦，又已是20年过去。半个多世纪不离不弃的“老纺织”情缘，养成了保留文物以至文物清样的习惯。因而，无意间竞为纺织工业留下了几百余万字的“实录”，耄耋之年，筛选出一百多万字编成“记录新中国纺织工业65年”四卷书。原非传世之作，更无炫世之意，仅为取其“半个世纪完整实录”所具有的某些历史价值以至某些学术价值而已。

《纺织大国崛起历程（1949-2014）》：
无可奈何的慢板：20世纪上半叶
20世纪上半叶，是中国纺织工业从初创转向缓慢成长的时期。50年的历程，明显地可分为三个阶段。
第一阶段（1901—1913年）的重要特点，是民族资本纺织企业开始兴起，与此同时外资纺织企业也迅速增加。
20世纪初，随着推翻帝制，洋务派官僚对民间资本进入棉纺织工业的限制也宣告完结。民族资本打开了棉纺织工业的大门。1905—1913年的8年间，先后有裕泰（常熟）、济泰（太仓）、振新（无锡）、和丰（宁波）、大生二厂（崇明）、利用（江阴）、广益（安阳）、华新（石家庄）、湖南安江和上海的德大、同昌等十几个民族资本纱厂创立。到1913年，全国各地民族资本纱厂已有23家，总规模为纺锭48.4万枚，布机2016台。本来就不受政府限制的丝绸工业，这时更出现了开办民营企业的热潮。1913年时，全国丝厂已发展到近200家，丝绸厂己近百家。外资进入中国纺织业，也多起来了。1910—1913年期间，仅上海一地就有英商公益纱厂和杨树浦纱厂、日商内外棉三厂等三家大中型纱厂开工。加上在此之前己建成的外商纱厂，到1913年外资纺织厂纱锭总数已达34万枚、布机已有2000台。
第二阶段（1914—1936年），即从第一次世界大战爆发到抗日战争前夕的二十几年间。“一战”时期，进口纱布锐减，国内市场纱布市价猛涨，纱厂获利丰厚；加以1915年全国各地人民群众反对“二十一条”，掀起抵制日货运动，1919年又爆发“五四运动”。这些都对民族工业的发展起了推动作用。从1916年开始的民族资本棉纺织工业持续景气的局面，到1921年下半年才回落。

这卷书收录的60来篇文稿，记录了纺织工业系统在新中国成立后四五十年间，群策群力，艰苦奋斗，将这个庞大的传统产业部门一步一步推向世界前列的史诗般的历程。
中国社会有注意修史的传统。新中国成立后，纺织工业历届部长都很注意从宏观上总结工业发展的阶段性历史经验。从《纺织工业光辉的十年》起，先后编写出《新中国纺织工业三十年》、《当代中国的纺织工业》、《中国纺织工业》大画册、《辉煌的二十世纪新中国大记录.纺织卷（1949～1999）》、《纺织工业战略大调整（1997～2000）》、《中国纺织工业改革开放30年（1978～2008）》。七本史书前后衔接，完整地记述了新中国纺织工业的发展历程。20世纪90年代，纺织工业部部长还安排可观人力、财力，集中几十位专家学者，编成堪称巨著的《中国近代纺织史（1840～1949）》。从而，更完整地记述了中国纺织工业发生、发展的历史。
由于工作岗位的关系，笔者参与了上述所有七本史书的编撰工作。除参与筹划外，还分工撰写总论、绪论、专论、序言、前言，起草部长署名文稿，编纂史料。这些文稿，现在分别收入记录新中国纺织工业65年的《纺织大国崛起历程》卷和《建设纺织强国》卷。由于是“官方修史”之作，并均具有概括论述各个历史阶段纺织工业全局状况的特点，这些文稿颇有存世价值。
当时由于处在“支柱产业”的地位，因此，纺织工业在20世纪中后期，一直是国内各大新闻媒体高度关注的一个产业部门。因政策研究、新闻宣传工作的职责所在，笔者在这个时期，配合新华社和《人民日报》《经济日报》《工人日报》等大报，编发了大量宣传纺织工业成就和典型经验的新闻稿。并根据纺织部领导的意图，或《人民日报》《工人日报》《红旗》杂志等媒体编辑部门的邀约，起草了不少报刊社论、专论、述评，不断地为纺织工业制造舆论。这一类文稿甚多，经筛选后入编《纺织大国崛起历程》卷的有二十几篇，都是有点存世价值的作品。
