Author Description

罗杰·E．A．法默（RogerE．A．Farmer），美国加州大学洛杉矶分校（ucLA）经济学教授，国际知名的宏观经济学家。法默教授自1988年以来一直在ucLA为本科生和研究生讲授宏观经济学。他于1999年再版的《自我实现预言的宏观经济学》（MacroeCOnomicsofSelf-FulfillingProphecies）一书是世界上流行的研究生层次的宏观经济学教材。他在宏观经济学和货币理论方面著述颇多，他还是著名学术期刊《动态宏观经济学》（MacronomicDynamiCS）和《经济增长杂志》（JournalofECOmomicGrowth）的副主编。
方福前，经济学博士。中国人民大学经济学院教授，博士生导师，中国人民大学《经济理论与经济管理》杂志主编，兼任国务院行政审批制度改革专家咨询组成员、国家民政部政策咨询专家委员会委员、国际全球环境变化人文因素计划中国国家委员会（cNC-IHDP）委员、中华外国经济学说研究会副会长，系首届（2003年）国家级教学名师．享受国务院特殊津贴专家。长期在中国人民大学讲授宏观经济学和西方经济学主要流派，主要研究领域为宏观经济学和中国宏观经济与政策。

1.1引言
1.1.1 宏观经济学的统一视角
这本书是关于宏观经济学以及研究宏观经济学的经济学家们之间的争论的。直到20世纪30年代约翰·梅纳德·凯恩斯写完《就业、利息和货币通论》，对宏观经济学和微观经济学进行区分的思想才逐渐成型。凯恩斯试图从整体上解释经济的运行机制。他问道，就业和价格的关系如何？政府政策是如何影响价格和就业的？最重要的是，政府应该如何实现充分就业？凯恩斯采用与他那个时代的微观经济学家完全不同的视角，这一视角的独特性导致了宏观经济学和微观经济学两个学科30年的独立发展。最近，经济学家认识到研究市场中单个生产者和消费者行为的方法（微观经济学），也可以用来研究经济整体的运行机制（宏观经济学）。这本书就是解释这种现代视角的。这种视角认为宏观经济学和微观经济学是一个学科的不同部分，它们使用同一种分析方法。

经过一段时间的精心酝酿和准备，由北京大学出版社出版的国外引进版的《经济学精选教材》系列图书终于与读者见面了。
目前入选该系列的教材共有四本：一本是经济学导论，william Baumol和Alan Blinder的Economics：Principles and Policy（第9版）；一本是微观经济学教材，Walter Nicholson的Microeconomic Theory：Basic Principles and Extensions（第9版）；另外两本是宏观经济学教材：Roger Farmer的Macroeconomics（第2版）和Richard Froyen的Macroeconomics：Theories and Polices（第8版）。除第一本为经济学初学者的入门教材外，后三本均属于中级水平的教材，面向的读者对象为大学经济学专业的本科生和MBA学生。
这四本教材可以说各有特色。
Baumol和Blinder合写经济学可谓珠联璧合。Baumol是当代最著名的微观经济理论大师之一，在他半个世纪的研究生涯中不断有新理论面世，是名副其实的“常青树”；Blinder则是著名的宏观经济学家，擅长财政和货币政策研究，长期参与美国宏观经济学政策的辩论，曾做过克林顿的总统经济顾问。由这两位大家合写一本同时强调理论与政策含义的经济学导论自然是再合适不过了。我一直认为，经济学最直观和最精深的智慧都在经济学导论中，千万别小瞧了它，应该反复研读。在阅读此书时，读者要特别注意那些紧密结合现实世界问题的经济学分析，从这些分析中你才能真正体会到经济学是一种让人学会思考的有力工具。
Nicholson的中级微观堪称这方面的经典教材：它初版于1972年，每隔几年修订一次，到现在已是第9版。如此长盛不衰的教材并不多见。我在美国斯坦福大学读书时做过本科生微观课的助教，教授选定的教学参考书中就有这本书，当时是第7版。此书最大的特点是它的严谨性，注重每一个理论的模型背景与数学推导。它没有其他同类教材那么多生动活泼的例子，而是一板一眼用图例和数学公式说明经济学的道理。每章章末都附有一些相关学术论文，作者对每篇文献还作了一些简要的评论，似乎希望有兴趣者会找到原始文献加以研读，所以此书的难度应该在中级教材之上。美国学生可能不太喜欢这种板着面孔说事的风格，但我觉得中国学生会非常适应。我建议最好将此书与别的“图文并茂”的微观教材结合起来阅读，收获会更大一些。
