3.应用科学护理学是一门应用科学，实践性较强。在护理工作中，护士不仅要具备一定的理论知识，还要熟练掌握各项操作技能，具有一定的实践操作能力。如在给患者进行静脉输液时，穿刺的角度、深度、手法等直接影响到穿刺的成功率；在抢救心脏骤停患者时，胸外心脏按压的部位、深度、频率等都直接关系到复苏的成败。这就要求护士能在临床实践中将护理理论与实践相结合。
（二）护理学的研究对象随着近代的生物医学模式向现代的生物、心理、社会医学模式转变，护理学的研究对象已经从单纯的患者扩大到健康人群，包括以下人群。
1.现存健康问题的人由于某些原因影响了人体正常生理活动，从而出现了症状、体征，或机体发生病理改变，患有某些疾病。这类人群的护理目标是：和医生配合，积极地对护理对象进行治疗和护理，使其早日康复。
2.潜在健康问题的人护理对象尚未出现症状、体征，但有一些需要注意的问题，如不引起注意，则会向疾病方向发展。如身体过于肥胖有患“三高症”（高血压、高血脂、高胆固醇）的危险。这类人群的护理目标是：采取预防措施，改变护理对象的饮食习惯和生活方式，维护其健康。
3.健康人群对健康人群进行健康教育，是护理学研究的新领域。如对新婚夫妇进行优生优育的宣教。这类人群的护理目标是：提高整个人类的健康水平，使人人都能有健康的身体。
