（3）神经计算机
模仿人类大脑功能的神经计算机已经开发成功，它标志着电子计算机的发展进入第6代。第6代电子计算机是模仿人的大脑判断能力和适应能力，并具有可并行处理多种数据功能的神经网络计算机。与以逻辑处理为主的第5代计算机不同，它本身可以判断对象的性质与状态，并能采取相应的行动，而且可同时并行处理实时变化的大量数据，并引出结论。以往的信息处理系统只能处理条理清晰，经络分明的数据。而人的大脑却具有能处理支离破碎、含糊不清信息的灵活性，第6代电子计算机将类似人脑的智慧和灵活性。电子计算机的发展已经进入了第6代，这种发展可能仅仅是刚起步，前途没有止境。
（4）量子计算机
1996年初，美国的科学家说，他们发现在某种条件下，光子能够发生相互作用，这个发现能够被用来制造新的信息处理器件，从而导致世界上性能最好的超级计算机的出现。目前已研制出了一种可瞬间进行图像数据计算的光电计算机。
美国加利福尼亚理工学院的物理学家已经证明，个体光子通常不相互作用，但是当它们与光学谐振腔内的原子聚在一起时，相互之间会产生强烈影响。光子的这种相互作用，能用于改进利用量子力学效应的信息处理器件的性能。这些器件转而能形成建造“量子计算机”的基础，量子计算机的性能能够超过基于常规技术的任何处理器件的性能。量子计算于1994年跃居科学前沿，当时研究人员发现了在量子计算机上分解大数因子的一种数学技术。这种数学技术意味着，在理论上，量子计算机的性能能够超过任何可以想象的标准计算机。量子计算机潜在的用途将涉及人类生活的每一个方面，从工业生产线到公司的办公室，从军用装备到学生课桌，从国家安全到自动柜员机。科学家们在实验中已经证明，光子和光学谐振腔内的原子之间的相互作用，能为建造光学量子逻辑门奠定基础。
（5）生物计算机
生物计算机主要是以生物电子元件构建的计算机。由于半导体硅芯片电路密集引起的散热问题难以解决，科学家便投入了生物计算机的研究与开发。生物计算机的性能是由元件与元件之间电流启闭的开关速度来决定的。科学家发现，蛋白质有开关特性，用蛋白质分子作元件制成集成电路，称为生物芯片。使用生物芯片的计算机称为蛋白质计算机，或称为生物计算机。已经研制出利用蛋白质团来制造的开关装置有：合成蛋白芯片，遗传生物芯片，红血素芯片等。
用蛋白质制造的计算机芯片，在1mm2的面积上即可容纳数亿个电路。因为它的一个存储点只有一个分子大小，所以它的存储量可以达到普通计算机的10亿倍。由蛋白质构成的集成电路，其大小只相当于硅片集成电路的十万分之一，而且运转速度更快，大大超过人脑的思维速度。生物计算机元件的密度比大脑神经元的密度高100万倍，传递信息的速度也比人脑思维的速度快100万倍。
