1．1．2关于矢量图和点阵图
矢量图是由诸如Adobe Illustrator、CorelDRAW等一系列图形软件产生的，它由一些用数学方式描述的曲线组成，其基本组成单元是锚点和路径，如图1-1—6所示。不论放大或缩小多少，矢量图的边缘都是平滑的，适用于制作企业标志。用矢量图做标志，无论用于商业信纸，还是张贴广告，只用一个电子文件就能满足要求，且可随时缩放，而效果同样清晰。
像素图则不同，它是由诸如Adobe Photoshop、Painter等软件产生的，如果将此类图放大到一定程度，就会发现它是由一个个小方格组成的，这些小方格被称为像素，故此类图有像素图之称。像素图的质量是由分辨率决定的，单位长度内的像素越多，分辨率越高，图像的效果就越好。用于制作多媒体光盘的图像通常达到72ppi就可以了，而用于彩色印刷品的图像则需300ppi左右，印出的图像才不会缺少平滑的颜色过渡。有时像素图也被称为点阵图。在Photoshop中也有绘制矢量图形的功能，这使用户使用起来更加灵活、方便。
1．1．3图像分辨率
正确理解图像分辨率(Image Resolutionch)和图像之间的关系对于了解Adobe Phomshop的工作原理非常重要。
图像分辨率的单位是ppi(pixels per inch)，即每英寸所包含的像素数量。如果图像分辨率是72 ppi，就是在每英寸长度内包含72像素。图像分辨率越高，意味着每英寸所包含的像素越多，图像就有越多的细节，颜色过渡就越平滑。
图像分辨率和图像大小之间有着密切的关系。图像分辨率越高，所包含的像素越多，图像的信息量就越大，因而文件也就越大。通常文件的大小是以兆字节(MB)为单位的。
通过扫描仪获取大图像时，将扫描分辨率设定为300 ppi就可以满足高分辨率输出的需要。如果扫描时分辨率设置得比较低，通过Photosh叩来提高图像分辨率的话，由Photoshop利用差值运算来产生新的像素，这样则会造成图像模糊、层次差，不能忠实于原稿。如果扫描时分辨率设置得比较高，图像已经获得足够的信息，通过Photoshoop来减少图像分辨率则不会影响图像的质量。
另外，常提到的输出分辨率是以dpi(dots per inch，每英寸所含的点)为单位，这是针对输出设备而言的。通常激光打印机的输出分辨率为300～600dpi，照排机要达到1 200～2 400dpi或更高。
1．1．4颜色深度
颜色深度(Color Depth)用来度量图像中有多少颜色信息可用于显示或打印像素，其单位是位(bit)，所以颜色深度有时也称为位深度。常用的颜色深度是1位、8位、24位和32位。1位有两个可能的数值：O或1。较大的颜色深度(每像素信息的位数更多)意味着数字图像具有较多的可用颜色和较精确的颜色表示。
因为一个1位的图像包含2种颜色，所以1位的图像最多可由两种颜色组成。在1位图像中，每个像素的颜色只能是黑或白(见图1—1—7)。一个8位的图像包含2。种颜色或256级灰阶。每个像素可能是256种颜色中的任意一种。一个24位的图像包含1 670万(2)种颜色。一个32位的图像包含2种颜色，但很少这样讲，这是因为32位的图像可能是一个具有Alpha通道的24位图像，也可能是cMYK色彩模式的图像，这两种情况下的图像都包含4个8位的通道。图像色彩模式和色彩深度是相关联的(一个RGB图像和一个cMYK图像都可以是32位，但不总是这种情况)。Photoshop也支持16位／通道，可产生16位的灰度模式的图像、48位的RGB模式的图像、64位的CMYK式的图像。表1—1—1列出了常见的色彩深度、颜色数量和色彩模式的关系。
