Book Abstract

正在吃酒之际，忽听外边人报说：“今有小霸王郭龙、赛燕青郭虎，乃是北路宣化府的英雄，来至此处，与黄三太送银。乃是听传言而来，并非是季全送信。”黄三太连忙让进他来，说：“我兄弟今日来送白银一千两整，现在驮子之内，叫来人交了这里。”黄三太说：“多承二位好意。”又与众绿林见礼已毕，归坐吃酒。李七侯心中说：“还是南霸天黄三太，指金镖一去，天下英雄亲身赶到送来银两，果然名不虚传。”
正在思想之际，忽见从外面进来一人，年约十六七岁，生的虎头燕额，威风凛凛，光着头，未戴帽，身穿青绉绸长衫，蓝绸子中衣，足登青缎子快靴，凶眉恶眼，怪肉横生，一见黄三太，放声大哭。众人无不发愣，并不认识于他。赛毛遂杨香武认的是茂州北门外红旗李煜的徒弟谢虎，随说：“谢虎，你来此何干？”谢虎说：“我奉我师傅之命，从家中带了五百两白银来，送至通州鲍家店，交给黄三太爷。不想走至半路之上，遇见了几个人，手执刀枪，把我围住，抢了五百两银子去。这件事叫我也不敢回去见我师傅，来至此处，求你老人家给我出一个救命的主意。”黄三太闻听，心中说：“红旗李煜这个人在镖行多年，他的镖无论走至明5里，只要有一杆红旗在车上，绿林中人瞧见，不但不劫，还要护送。今天谢虎一说半路之上失去了五百两银子，断不能是绿林中人。”遂说：“谢虎，你回去，我告诉你银子已然失去，见了你师傅，我就说你给了我银子了。”谢虎磕了一个头，拜别去了。从此一走，在《施公案》上大闹任丘县，练的一身好工夫，会打毒药镖，甚有名气。这是后话，暂且不表。
单说李七侯见众位英雄把银送来，凑至一处，一万五千两之数，连忙差人去请那左玉春来。次日左玉春来，与众位绿林英雄大家见礼已毕。黄三太说：“老兄台甫怎么称呼？”左玉春说：“名玉春，号华访。”黄三太说：“听李七弟说，兄台乃是裕王府的皇粮庄头，这一件事，还求兄台的鼎力。”左庄头说：“我也想着为力，但彭公在三河署中有半月之久，怕的是走漏了风声，彭公也不能在县中住了。那假报喜之人，还算无人知道。我明日把银子装在花盆、酒坛之中，这两样物件，可以带进城去送礼。我暗中托人办事，须请两位朋友跟我去才好。”快腿马龙、飞燕子马虎二人说：“我们跟了去可否？”左玉春说：“甚好，须要检点。”把银子装在花盆、酒坛之内，雇人夫抬着，上插黄旗“裕亲王府所用”，马龙、马虎弟兄二人押着，左玉春骑着马，跟随大众英雄出店去。
顺大路，三个人进了齐化门，行至东单牌楼裕王府门首，到了回事处，管事的巴兴阿瞧见是左庄头，说：“左大哥，你可好哇，从哪里来呀？”左爷说：颂你的驾，去禀爷知道，说我孝敬十坛绍兴酒、十二盆兰花，现有两封银子，送给你们众哥们吃杯茶罢。”叫从人递过去，巴兴阿见了银子，说：“何必老兄费心，我去禀明了执事的太监刘老爷。”这个人心直口快，与那左玉春最好，听巴兴阿一回禀，连忙说：“请把左庄头请进书房之内。”左玉春给刘老爷请了安，说：“老爷好哇！”刘老爷说：“左贤弟，你从哪里来？”左玉春说：“从家中来。我这里有白银一千两，送给刘老爷台前买件衣服穿。”刘太监是常给左玉春走动官司的，一见左玉春送银子说：“贤弟何必费心，自管实讲。”左爷就说：“彭公升任三河县，私访拿恶霸左青龙，乃是我一个族侄，甚不务本分，充当斗行，欺压良善。我久有心要送他当官治罪，奈不得其便。被人公举，内有抢夺妇女之案，侵吞银两，被彭公拿获。有一个武举武文华，他上当堂讲情，彭公不允。武文华一怒，他来在都中，走托他义父索奈的人情，买通御史李秉成参了一本，是任意妄为，奉旨即行革职。我想他乃是一位清官，无故被参。我有一个朋友名叫白马李七侯，他乃是一个英雄，苦苦恳求我，叫我来求王爷为彭朋说几句好话，万一保住他官复原职，亦未可知。”刘太监闻听，心中说：“此事不容易办，见了王爷，我替你说两句好话就是了。”先到里边回禀裕王爷。老王爷说：“来人，命他进来。”

余著此《彭公案》一书，乃国朝之实事也，并非古词小说之流，无端平空捏出，并无可稽考。此书中如彭公、黄三太、李七侯诸人，忠臣义士也。彭公乃国朝名儒，忠正廉明，才识过人。初任县宰，入境私访，使匪恶棍徒闻名心惊，叫安善良民人人敬畏。看其断无头案，如驴夫殴伤人命、夜内移换尸身、日验双尸、黄狗告状等案，真千古佳谈，虽包龙图复生，不能辨其情敝。今竞著实事百余回，所论者，忠臣义士得以流芳千古，乱臣贼子尽遭报应循还，使读者无废书长叹之说，有拍案称奇之妙。如欧阳德之为人，堪称侠义，非为贪图名利，所办之事，使读此书者有着目惊心之想，真别古绝今之人也。是为叙。时光绪十八年，岁次壬辰桐月，都门贪梦道人著述。
