筒井康隆，日本小说家、科幻作家和演员。曾获得星云奖与紫绶勋章。1934年出生于大阪，日本科幻小说界“教父”级人物，与小松左京、星新一并称为日本三大科幻作家。筒井的作品曾多次被影视化，其中包括被改编成各种电影、电视和动画片的《穿越时空的少女》、《日本以外全部沉没》、《盗梦侦探》等等。

“去我的公寓扫描你的梦吧。设备都在。”
帕布莉卡说。她的气息甘甜芬芳，尽显成熟女性的特质。能势不禁吃了一惊，又一次开始怀疑她的真实年纪。“我的治疗会拖很久吗？”他问出自己最在意的问题。
“海德格尔说过，焦虑乃是人类本当呈现的理想状态，焦虑中的人才更完美。如果您能驯服焦虑，与焦虑共生，或者说学会一些利用焦虑的方法，也就不再需要治疗了。到了那时候，您产生焦虑的根本原因也会同时揭晓的。”
“我可没办法像你说的那么悠闲自得。”
“这我理解。您既有社会生活，也有家庭生活啊。但是不放松可不行。不要着急。一般来说，肯定能治好的，只要抓住机会就行。不管怎么说，您现在已经在谷底了，基本上不会进一步恶化到精神病的状态。”
出租车停在信浓町一座十几层高的高级公寓前。
这是一个相当宽敞的住所，看起来像是专供重要人物居住的。客厅里全是奢华的家具和日用品，八扇落地玻璃门外则是阳台，站在那边可以将延伸至新宿方向的夜景尽收眼底。
“看来你是VIP啊。”
能势禁不住感叹起来，不过帕布莉卡并没有理会。帕布莉卡把能势引进这间有点像是诊疗室的昏暗房间，里面除了供患者用的病床之外，还有像是帕布莉卡用的床铺和衣橱。患者的简易病床旁边，贴着墙壁摆放着许多PT仪，几台显示器发出淡淡的光芒。房间没有窗户。
“您没有幽闭恐惧症吧？”
“没有。不过有点恐高。”
“记下了。您现在能睡着吗？”
“我一直都是过劳状态，放在平时随便在哪儿都能睡着，”
能势脱下上衣，递给与自己差不多高的帕布莉卡。
帕布莉卡让能势戴上一只头罩，外形好像浴帽。透明的头罩表面印着犹如地铁线路图一样的电路，后脑的位置上连着电线。能势把它想象成坚固的头盔。
“这就是戈耳工？”（Gorgones蛇发女妖三姐妹，此处用作采集器的代号）
“您知道的不少呀。不过如今已经不用满脑的电线了，只要一根就够了。再过一阵，大概连头罩都不用了。”
能势龙夫自己睁开了眼睛。
“刚才的是个很短的梦吧，那么短的东西能分析出什么结果？”能势一边穿衣服一边问。
“当然会有结果。请坐到这里来。我重放一遍，一起欣赏艺术短片吧。”
帕布莉卡拍了拍床头，向穿好了衣服的能势说。能势按照她的示意坐下，抬头便能看见显示器屏幕。屏幕上显示的是一幅静止不动的黑白画面。
“目前的技术水平只能以黑白影像监测梦境吗？”
“没什么必要弄成彩色的吧。”帕布莉卡按下按钮，开始播放。
出现了一间教室。梦中的能势正望着讲台。讲台上有个看起来六十多岁的身形消瘦的男人正在讲话，但是声音很模糊，不知道在讲什么。
“这是哪儿的教室？”
“是我上中学时候的教室，”重新经历刚刚做过的梦，这感觉实在有点异样。而且帕布莉卡就在身边，不禁还有些许难堪的情绪，就好像被人看到自己自慰时候留下的痕迹一样。“不过不知道为什么，在梦里的时候我好像并没觉得这是中学教室，反倒以为是在公司里。”
“为什么？正在说话的是谁？”帕布莉卡暂停画面。
“应该就是因为这家伙，我才会觉得是在公司里吧。这人叫资延，是我们公司的董事。”
“和您关系不好？”
“应该说是对手吧。他害怕我在公司的地位上升，也嫉妒无公害汽车的成功。借口说时机不成熟，和通产省的官员联手阻挠开发。”
“他为什么要这么做？”
“为了下任社长的位子，他更害怕我的年轻。毕竟我比他小十岁。”
“为什么害怕这个？”
“害怕自己死的早啊，要么就是害怕太老了被迫退休什么的吧。”
画面继续播放。资延一边在黑板上写字，一边继续说话。总算能听见几个断断续续的词，“芭蕉”，“奥之细道”等等（《奥之细道》是日本俳谐师松尾芭蕉所著的纪行书，其中有“百代之过客”的句子）。黑板上写着“百代之过客”几个大字。
“像是在上语文课。”
“是古文。我总学不好的一门课。一直都被语文老师欺负。”
“那个语文老师和这个叫资延的人有什么共同点吗？”画面暂停。
“没有。语文老师经常更换，所以教过我的人很多，他们之间完全没有共同点。硬要说有的话，大概就是我都被他们欺负过。”
继续播放。资延好像在讲台上向能势问了一个什么问题，能势站起来回答。画面静止。
“这件事情实际并没发生过。黑板上的字本来必须念作‘HaKuTaiNoKaKyaKu’，这个有点奇怪。我最近刚读过《奥之细道》，像‘百代’需要念作‘HaKuTai’，我是知道的啊。”
画面上面朝屏幕的资延正在训斥能势。
同班同学纷纷嘲笑被训斥的能势。低低的笑声犹如水面的涟漪一样散开。能势的视线扫视整个教室，班上同学的脸全都变成了野兽的面目。熊、虎、狼、野猪、鬣狗。画面暂停。
“为什么大家全是野兽？”
“不知道。”
“这里面有没有熟悉的脸？”
“我可不认识野兽哦。不过这里面的熊倒是有点像竞争对手公司里的一个人。”
“那个人叫什么名字？”帕布莉卡把能势说的话一一记在笔记本上。
“叫濑川。不过这人我从来没拿他当回事啊。”
“清醒的时候不当回事的人常常都会出现在梦里。如果真正当回事的人出现在梦里，会刺激你醒过来的。”
“原来如此。”
艺术短片切换到下一个场景。
葬礼。鲜花丛中是一张男人的照片。一个身着丧服的女子正朝向画面之外、也就是梦中的能势哭诉着什么。这是个年轻美貌的女人，长得与帕布莉卡也有点相像。
“这个女人是谁？”画面暂停。
“我们公司有个职员叫难波，这女人是他的妻子。不过实际上我一次都没见过他的妻子。”
“那这个女人是不是和谁长的有点像？”
“我认不出来。硬要说的话，和你倒是有点像。”
“照片里的男人呢？”
“他就是难波。”
“就是说他已经死了？”
“啊不是，他在现实里可是活得好好的。白天的时候我还刚刚见过他。”
“这个人也是你在公司里的对手吗？”
“不是不是。他是无公害汽车开发的核心人物，开发室室长。”
“是你的属下啊。”
“说是属下，其实我也没有拿他真正当成属下。我们的关系既是同事，也是战友，还是辩论的对手。”
帕布莉卡再次启动画面，不过屏幕上的视角刚刚转到出席葬礼者的人身上，画面便突然中断了。
“唔，就是在这里醒的吧。虽然是做梦，但是一看到参加葬礼的人，我就禁不住想，哎呀，难波死了呀，紧跟着我就吓醒了。”
帕布莉卡把短短的梦倒回去，又观察了一遍。
“去外面的房间喝杯咖啡吧。”
帕布莉卡站起身提议道。她的模样有些疲惫。
两个人回到客厅。虽然已经过了凌晨两点，但新宿的夜景依然华美绚丽。
帕布莉卡把蓝山咖啡倒入能势的杯子。“您刚刚提到语文老师的时候，用了‘欺负’这个词呀。”
“是吗？”
“您说了两次。像这种情况的话，一般不会用‘欺负’这个词的吧？”
“好像是不会这么说，一般应该是说‘批评’。我觉得这个可能是拿资延平时在公司里对我的态度做了类比，不自觉地用了这个说法。”
“您在公司会受那个叫资延的人欺负吗？”
