鱼刺
很多年前，我丈夫和我住在巴黎翻译艺术书。我们挣的所有钱都花在了看电影和吃饭上。我们看的多是美国老电影，它们在巴黎很流行，我们大多数时间在外面吃饭，因为那时饭馆的饭比较便宜，而且我们两个人都不太会做饭。
不过，一天晚上我做了鱼排当晚饭。这些鱼排不该有刺，但里面肯定有一根小刺，因为我丈夫吞下了它而且它卡在了他喉咙里。我们两个人都没被鱼刺卡过，虽然我们常常会有这种担心。
我给他吃了一些面包，他还喝了很多杯水，但鱼刺还是结实地卡在那里，一动不动。
几个小时里痛苦加剧了，我丈夫和我也变得越来越不安，我们离开公寓走到巴黎昏暗的街上去寻求帮助。我们先是找到了在附近住的一个护士的底层公寓，她指点我们去一家医院。我们走了一段路，然后在沃日拉尔大道发现了那家医院。医院老旧昏暗，就好像已经不怎么营业了的样子。
在医院里，我在前门附近一个宽阔的走廊里一张折叠椅上坐着等着，而我丈夫则在附近一个关着的房间里由几个护士陪着，她们想帮他但她们除了往他的喉咙上喷东西然后站在旁边笑之外也做不了更多，我丈夫也会笑，至少尽量笑。我不知道他们都在笑什么。
终于一个年轻的医生来了，他带着我丈夫和我经过几条长长的、荒废的走廊和医院两边昏暗的空地，来到一个空荡荡的侧楼，他在那里还有一间检查室，他的设备都放在那里。每种设备弯曲的角度都不一样但它们最后都会以某种形式的钩子作结。在一束灯光下，在那昏暗的房间里，他将一个又一个设备塞进我丈夫的喉咙里，带着极大的兴趣和热情工作。每次他塞入一种新设备时我丈夫都会犯呕，并在空中挥动双手。
医生终于取出了那个小鱼刺并骄傲地四面展示。我们三个人都笑了，并向彼此祝贺。
医生把我们带回那空荡荡的走廊，走廊的拱顶是为了马车而建的。我们站在那里说了一会儿话，一边环顾着周围空旷的街道，然后我们握了握手，我丈夫和我便走回了家。
这件事已经过去十多年了，我丈夫和我早已分道扬镳，但时不时地，当我们聚在一起时，我们会想起那个年轻的医生。“一个很棒的犹太医生，”我丈夫说，他也是犹太人。
