Author Description

马克西姆·高尔基（1868-1936），享誉世界的俄国作家。出身木工家庭，早年丧父，只念过三年书，靠自学成才。1892年用笔名“马克西姆·高尔基”发表处女作短篇小说《马卡尔·楚德拉》，从此专心从事写作。一生著作颇丰，成就斐然，代表作有自传三部曲（《童年》《在人间》《我的大学》）、《母亲》、《克里姆·萨姆金的一生》等。他的很多作品被收入中国中学语文课本，包括《海燕之歌》、《鹰之歌》、《母亲》（节选）等。

李辉凡，1933年生，广东兴宁人，历任中国社会科学院外国文学研究所研究员、研究室主任、研究生院教授、博士生导师。主要著作有：《苏联文学史》《二十世纪俄罗斯文学史》《二十世纪初俄苏文学思潮》《文学人学》《俄国“白银时代”文学概观》等。主要译著有：托尔斯泰的《复活》、冈察洛夫的《奥勃洛莫夫》、契诃夫的《契诃夫短篇小说选》、高尔基的《童年》和巴赫金的《文艺学中的形式主义》等。

在一个昏暗、狭小的房间里，我的父亲躺在窗下的地板上，他穿着白色的衣裳，身体显得非常之长；他那双光着脚的脚趾奇怪地张开，那双亲切的手安详地放在胸脯上，手指则弯曲着；他那双快活的眼睛紧闭着，就像两枚圆圆的铜币，善良的脸色发黑，难看地龇着牙齿，使我害怕。
母亲半裸着身体，穿一条红裙子，跪在那里。她用黑梳子把父亲那很长的柔软的头发从前额梳向后脑勺。那黑梳子是我喜欢用来锯西瓜皮的。母亲不停地说话，声音沉厚而又沙哑，灰色的眼睛肿得像是溶化了似的，流着大滴大滴的眼泪。
外祖母拉着我的手。她全身滚圆，大脑袋，眼睛也很大，鼻子却松软得可笑。她穿一身黑色衣裳，全身很柔软，非常滑稽。她也在哭，哭得有点儿特别，好像是熟练地在给母亲伴哭似的。她全身颤抖着，并拉着我往父亲身边推；我不愿意去，躲在她的后面。我感到很害怕，也很别扭。
我还从未见过大人哭，也不明白外祖母多次说的下面的话是什么意思：
“跟爹爹告别吧，你再也看不见他了，我亲爱的孩子，他死了，不到年纪，不到时候就……”
我生过一场大病，刚能下地走动。我记得很清楚：我生病的时候，父亲快活地看护着我，可是后来他忽然不见了，代替他的是外祖母，一个奇怪的人。
“你是从哪里来的？”我问她。
她回答说：
“我是从上边，从尼日尼来的，而且不是走来的，是坐船来的！水上是不能走的，小鬼！”
这真可笑，而且也不明白：在我家的楼上住着一些留着大胡子染了头发的波斯人，而地下室则住着黄脸的加尔梅人老头子，一个贩卖羊皮的。沿着楼梯可以骑着栏杆滑下来，若是摔倒了，就翻个筋斗滚下去——这我都非常清楚。可是这与水有什么关系呢？一切都乱套了，乱七八糟得可笑。
“我怎么是小鬼呢？”
“因为你爱吵吵嚷嚷。”她也笑着说。
她说话亲切、快乐、和气。打从第一天起我就跟她要好了，现在我希望她快点带我离开这个房间。
