那迤逦如山水横幅，清幽绝俗的富春江，诚然是红尘中的人间仙境，奈何，他们都没有坐视民间疾苦而不动心的修为。
一叶舟轻，双桨鸿惊，水天清影湛波平。鱼翻藻鉴，鹭点烟汀，过沙溪惫，霜溪冷，月溪明。
重重似画，曲曲如屏，算当年虚老严陵。君臣一梦，今古空名，但远山长，云山乱，晓山青。
素笺上，潇洒脱尘的行草，在柳瑾惊叹中，落下了最后一个字。苏轼濡墨，另行写下“过七里濑”“调寄行香子”，才放下笔，抬起头来。
柳瑾捋着髭须，笑道：
“都道你文章好，诗好，不意作歌词，也出色当行！我本有心难你，没想到……我还是甘拜下风，藏拙了吧，珠玉在前，也不必献丑了。”
指着“君臣一梦，今古空名”八字，叹道：
“子瞻正当盛年，何以透彻至此？这该是如我辈老朽才有的感慨。”
苏轼想起当日过“严子陵钓台”时的感触，道：
“当日，光武中兴，是何等惊天动地的大事！功成后，再三诏请，严子陵却宁隐于富春山垂钓，不愿立身庙廊，其人志行之高洁淡泊，令人忻慕向往，古来君臣恩义，似此能几？然而，而今安在？”
他缓缓道：
“如果严子陵生当此际，目睹天灾人祸，是否还能动心忍性，高蹈避世，独善其身？”
他忍不住把满腔忧世忧民之情，向辈分比他高一辈，却堪称忘年知己的柳瑾倾泻。柳瑾，是他堂妹小二娘的公公，与王安石同年及第，却半生偃蹇，在贬谪中，寄情诗酒，消磨了壮志豪情。眼见昔日同年，如今飞黄腾达，位列公卿，自己却不遇如此，又哪能没有感慨？
这一回，他往杭州访苏轼，苏轼热诚接待，陪他遍游两湖胜景。眼见苏轼的焕发、秀杰，他喜慰之余，又不禁担心：子瞻锋芒太露，忧民济世之心又太切，而这二端，却正是官场大忌，想当年自己，何尝不以经国济世之才自许？如今，一纸任命，监灵仙观，看来，这就是这一生的仕途终点了……一念及此，不禁唏嘘。
苏轼这一回，是奉命往常州、润州赈济，因柳瑾家居京口，准备先回家，再往灵仙观去，正好同路，所以附载同行。对这位老世伯的怀才不遇之情，他是了解的，也充满了同情。但，更令他萦怀的，却不是个人的际遇，而是天下苍生。
风不调，雨不顺，旱蝗为灾，五谷不登，他，一个小小的通判，除了禀一念之诚，灵隐祷雨，更能为百姓做什么？天灾如此，还加上种种人为因素。饥年乏食，尚有可说，丰年，百姓又何曾因而受惠？
他想起家中的小丫鬟子云，子云初到他家，瘦伶伶的，面有菜色，对“做官”的他惊畏如虎。后来，他才慢慢知道，子云家中原本小康，只因不堪青苗贷款，胥吏逼迫，才落得走投无路，家破人亡。牙婆上门，怂恿叔叔卖侄自救……子云道：
“姊姊说，不能怪叔叔，要怪，只怪‘青苗法’。要不是为了还青苗欠款，我爹娘不会死，叔叔也不会卖我们的。”
相处渐熟，子云天真地对他说：
“若我早些卖到官人家就好了。官人是做官的，必肯发善心，免了我爹娘的欠款，爹娘就不会死了。”
他哑然苦笑：他通判杭州，前后两任太守沈立、陈襄，都堪称是好官了，犹不免有百姓迫于逋欠，家破人亡的事。若换了一心巴结执政，努力推行新法的官守，那百姓的悲惨，更当百十倍于他的所见所闻。
“爱民如子”，官吏每以此阿谀自我陶醉，实则如何？天下岂有为父母者，眼见儿女饥馑，还忍雪上加霜的？这几年，他看多了这一类的惨剧：五谷丰登，而农夫乏食；蚕桑鼎盛，而织妇乏衣。年年“良法美意”，逼民青苗贷款，只令债上滚债，永无清偿之日！
他，身为“民之父母”，竞白匡救无力，甚至在朝廷法令下，还不能不扮演“助纣为虐”的角色！
他努力尽责，做一个好官：春口劝农，蝗灾捕蝗，干旱求雨，汤村开运盐河，他陪着百姓淋雨督役……他以此求心安。他能心安吗？他家中，现搁着一个朝廷“德政”的受害人，他又如何能无动于衷？
因此，他再三以病为由，推却太守陈襄邀宴招饮，却独自一人到孤山，访高僧惠勤。惠勤，是他的恩师欧阳修的方外知交，欧阳修死后，他不免把惠勤视如师友，以寄孺慕。
惠勤见了他，什么也没说，只把他迎进禅房，烹茶相待。在茶炯袅袅、苦后回甘中，他知道，已跳出红尘的惠勤，对于世事，跟他一样有心无力。甚至，便算欧阳公在世，又何力抗命朝廷，挽狂澜于既倒？
严子陵早已作古，苏轼和柳瑾却各怀心事地沉默着，那迤逦如山水横幅，清幽绝俗的富春江，诚然是红尘中的人间仙境，奈何，他们都没有坐视民间疾苦而不动心的修为。
“二哥！”
柳仲远夫妇双双出堂，迎接远归的老父和同舟而来的苏轼。柳夫人尤其欢喜，苏轼见到堂房中仅存的小堂妹，也欣喜莫名。他本行二，长兄景先早卒，出道之时，便只与弟弟苏辙子由并称“大苏”“小苏”了。
“小二娘，可有好多年不见了！”
小二娘笑着唤两个孩子：
“闳儿、辟儿，快来拜见舅舅！”
两个男孩，大的不过十岁，带着弟弟，中规中矩地向他磕了头，直喜得苏轼一手一个，连忙拉起来，笑向柳仲远道：
“仲远，这可是一门双璧！”
柳仲远笑道：
“柳家双璧，只要能及苏家双璧一半，我就心满意足了。”
苏轼笑指小二娘：
“有我这位贤妹督教，还怕他们不青出于蓝？”
回头唤僮仆：
“把娘子预备的礼物取来！”
原来，苏夫人知他要到京口，早打点了礼物馈赠。送小二娘的是丝绸锦缎，送外甥的是文房四宝。
“季章说，外甥都启蒙上学了，我们这样人家，别的用不着，文房四宝必不可少，日后赴试中举，也全仗佳笔佳墨，所以，以此表祝福之意。”
小二娘命两个孩子拜谢，道：
“多谢嫂嫂金口。二哥，子安哥正好有信来，你此番不来，我还要托人捎去。二哥先看信，我去看看酒饭好了没有，待会儿再来请！”
目送小二娘带着孩子姗姗而去，苏轼依稀见到她幼时双鬟垂肩的娇稚模样。她总在下午黄昏时分，他和子由完了功课时，披着一身日影而来，磨着他和子由把一天所学讲给她听。有时他感觉，她娇憨相求，对他的督促力量，竞比他启蒙师张道士还大。
他只有这一个小堂妹，他和子由对她疼爱呵护有如亲妹妹，而她对他们的亲爱，甚至胜于对她的亲哥哥。
往事依稀，昔日幼女，今已为人母，兄妹之情，依旧是逾于手足。尤其他亲姊妹相继夭折，小二娘，是他世上唯一的姊妹了。
抽出家信，堂兄子安照例叙述一下家中亲友的近况，然后是对他的关切期勉，最后，问他何时能返乡一行，以扫先人墓丘，并叙兄弟之情。
他深深叹口气，把信珍重收好：他知道，故乡亲朋，每以他为荣，也总认为，他“富贵不还乡”，如锦衣夜行，却不知，他在仕宦途中，方才起步，却已深觉“身不由己”了。就如他和小二娘，一在杭州，一在润州，相距并不远，却若不是他奉命赈济，也难得一见。
回到家中，彼此姻娅至亲，柳瑾便以家宴接待，家中笛婢，一边吹笛助兴，却比急管繁弦，别有一番幽雅情味。酒酣耳热，柳瑾笑指两个孙儿：
“子瞻，听闳儿说，二十七娘送他们文房四宝，你这位学富五车的舅舅，难得来此，秀才人情，还不送一张吗？有你开笔，也望他们文章书法，都能日益长进，不辱没舅家！”
两个孩子一听祖父如此说，立时向前跪下，道：
“求舅舅赐字。”
苏轼搀起外甥，笑道：
“家里现放着以书法、诗文名家的祖父，还要舍近求远？”
小二娘一边接口：
“孩子们仰慕舅舅多时了。先前小，不知舅舅文名，如今启了蒙，直把舅舅敬如天人。二哥，你又何必谦辞呢？”
苏轼向柳仲远道：
“我这贤妹，我是从来未敢拂逆的。家父三女，二人是幼年夭折，一姊，也在嫁后不久去世。小二娘承欢二老膝下，解慰二老失女之痛，使我和子由由衷感念。我三人，虽非同胞，不啻手足。子玉仁丈传谕，再加上贤妹有命，我倒真不敢推辞！”
小二娘含笑让到书案前，吩咐孩子发笔磨墨，苏轼裁了纸，振腕落笔：
退笔成山未足珍，读书万卷始通神。君家自有元和脚，莫厌家鸡更问人！
柳瑾哈哈而笑，道：
“家鸡毕竟不如野雉，老朽不能不服！”
家鸡，典出晋代。王羲之书法称擅一时，庾翼本以书法名家，而家中子弟，却竞学王羲之，他因此有“小儿辈厌家鸡，爱野雉”之叹。
小二娘却向孩子们道：
“‘读书万卷始通神’，这是二舅舅的金针法门，你们可要切记此语。”
苏轼道：
“小二娘知我！”
说着，换一枝笔，续写另一绝：
一纸行书两绝诗，遂良须鬓已如丝。何当火急传家法，欲见诚悬笔谏时！
诚悬，是唐代书法家柳公权的字，他曾在皇帝问他用笔法时，答：“心正则笔正，笔正乃可法矣。”以此来隐喻劝谏皇帝，使皇帝感悟。苏轼用这个典，其中的期许，便不言而喻了。
柳瑾神色一整，吩咐孙儿：
“还不快拜谢舅舅赐诗垂教！”
柳志远也动容：
“子瞻，这两首诗，可当我柳家传世的家训了，子孙只要以此为安身立命之道，何愁不振家风！”
小二娘抬头望着苏轼，泪光隐隐：
“二哥，只怕，你一生志业，也就在其中了……”
苏轼点点头，的确，他是以心正、笔正为立身、立朝的准则的。
他不知道，自己是否能以笔谏匡救天下，但他知道，他会见贤思齐，勉力而为的！

苏东坡是我的“最爱”。
这句话，似乎太突兀了点，又太简略了点，对一个相去将近一千年的古人，或许该改用“尊敬”“崇拜”一类的字眼较为合宜，而且，也该具体指陈尊敬、崇拜他什么？学术、才华、德行、节操，还是民胞物与的情怀、高远旷达的志节、洒脱超迈的风范、震古烁今的文学成就……
这一切都包括在我的“爱”中，而他最令我“倾心”的是：在众多的历史人物中，他是最“活生生”的，有血有肉，至情至性，是可以从文章、诗词中感觉到生命的脉动的，而不是历史列传中冷硬、严肃，遥不可及的“古圣贤”。他的至情至性，带给他的是坎坷颠沛的宦海波涛，垂老投荒的不幸际遇，而这些“不幸”却磨淬得他更旷达、超脱、悲天悯人，也更成就了他千古不朽之名，不是吗？那些诬陷迫害他的人，如今安在？而他，千载之后，仍是中国文学史上最灿烂的名字，因着他的文章，也因着他的“人”。在当时，他任地方官的百姓就家家画像供奉他。如今，又有哪个爱好文学的中国人不“爱”苏东坡？
写这样一个浩瀚如海的人，实在不是我力能胜任的。因此，在舍不得不写，又怕写不出这位“坡仙”的矛盾中，我选择了他身边那集贞义、美慧、多情于一身的朝云为主角，截取他与朝云共处的二十三年，为我小说的主题。随着朝云，我们经历苏东坡半生起伏；随他因乌台诗狱九死一生，随他贬谪黄州，躬耕于东坡，泛舟赤壁，赋前后“赤壁赋”，唱“大江东去”；随他登仕途高峰，身兼两学士，并为帝师；也随他经历新旧党争，乃至贬谪岭南……
在大起大落中，朝云始终默默追陪，苏轼一生爱的人太多了，朝云，在他诗文中占的比例，实在少得微不足道，但我们知道，朝云的确是他生命中的一部分，她之所以容易被忽略，原因也正在于此。只因她真正进入他的生活，乃至生命中，才能令他习而不察，视而不见。
传奇小说中，多的是才子佳人的故事，苏东坡和朝云，算得上真才子、真佳人，却又有哪一对才子佳人能到达他们的境界？有哪一位“才子”，能比得上苏东坡一代文宗的不朽地位？有哪一位“佳人”，比得上朝云，在苏轼老病侵寻，远谪穷荒时，不离不弃，誓死追陪的坚贞！爱情是什么？只是甜言蜜语的山盟海誓吗？只是你侬我依的悱恻缠绵吗？那些“有情人”终成眷属之后，是否能历经这样严苛的现实考验，才子穷愁潦倒，佳人人老珠黄，而彼此无怨无悔？许多故事中没有交代，但我们都知道《莺莺传》里的张生薄幸，一旦富贵，便忘故交；那“在天愿为比翼鸟，在地愿为连理枝”的唐明皇，在“六军不发”时，也为了自保，而把他口口声声“爱”的杨贵妃，做了塞天下怨的牺牲祭品。他们的爱情，都比苏东坡和朝云的轰轰烈烈，浓得化不开，但结果呢？
朝云，比起许多传奇故事的女主角，毋宁是平凡的，但她以生命证明了她的爱——淡淡如水的海样深情！
