终于到了第五街才松口气，一转头，发觉纪元已在后座睡着。

育台接听，那边是老陈的声音：“来了？”

李育台一看，吃惊，她是纽约大学戏剧系学生。
生活逼人。
她耸耸肩，“不做学生，就得走，做了学生，没生活费。”
半晌李育台问：“请问芳名？”
“德琵。”
“不不，想请问你的中文名字。”
女郎低下头，半晌才答：“形影。”
李育台更加意外，“那是一个美丽的名字。”
“是，”女郎轻轻说，“有人这样说过。”
“离开上海有多久了？”
“三年。”
李育台斟杯茶给她，“可想家？”
“每夜地梦。”
“为什么不回去？”
“总不甘心入宝山而空手回。”
李育台低声嚷；“这并非一座宝山！”

“回去吧。”
“连我自己都不认识自己了，还回得去吗？”

“太太没一起来？”
李育台忽然说：“她一年前已病逝。”
女郎露出惋惜的神情来，“对不起。”

“那痛楚一定很可怕。”
“是。”
“要不要讲出来？”
“要不要听？”

他第一次向人透露心声：“开头知道她患癌症，是不置信：这种事

女郎哀痛地做注解：“真是人间惨事。”

“她长得可美？”

女郎看看腕表，“我离去的时间到了。”

女郎走到门前，李育台塞一卷钞票给她。

李育台忽然说：“同是天涯沦落人。”

李育台再次忠告：“回家去。”
“我的确是回家。”
她走了。
关上门，看见纪元站在寝室旁，她问：“谁？”
“陈叔叔的朋友。”这是真的。
也许说出来真有用，李育台那晚躺在长沙发上发一会子呆，终于睡
着了。
他已有两年多没睡好过，一觉醒来，天尚未亮，才四点多，可是已
经十分满足。
心仍然痛，感觉一样坏，但至少已睡了一觉，这也是一种进步。
他们说时间可以治疗一切伤口，但是这个伤势等于全身百分之九十
皮肤炙伤，必死无疑。
李育台闭上双目，滚烫的眼泪流下来。
还在哭。
哭得出的那天又比哭不出那天舒服，他希望可以哭久点，悲哀的毒
素随眼泪排出，但是又怕影响纪元。
他听见冰箱开合之声。
“纪元，是你吗？”
“爸爸你早。”
“一直到四岁你才会说这句话。”
“我不是个聪明的孩子，吴瑶瑶才是。”
“不，她是庸脂俗粉。”
“我肯定她是。”
父女二人苦中作乐，笑了片刻。
