Author Description

马克西姆·高尔基（1868—1936）是阿列克塞·马克西莫维奇·彼什科夫的笔名，他是沙皇俄国后期和苏联初期的*名作家，是苏联社会主义现实主义文学的奠基人，政治活动家。高尔基出生在伏尔加河畔的一个木匠家庭，由于父母早亡，他十岁时便出外谋生，到处流浪，当过鞋店学徒、在轮船上洗过碗、在码头上搬过货物、给富农干过活，还干过铁路工人、面包工人、看门人、园丁……这在小说《童年》里都有反映。在饥寒交迫的生活中，高尔基通过顽强自学，掌握了欧洲古典文学、哲学和自然科学等方面的知识。只上过两年小学的高尔基在24岁那年发表了他的短篇小说《玛卡尔·楚德拉》。高尔基留下了大量的各种体裁的文学作品和书信、政论文章等。尤其是他作于1901年的散文诗《海燕之歌》，塑造了象征大智大勇的革命者搏风击浪的勇敢的海燕形象，预告革命风暴即将到来，鼓舞人们去迎接伟大的战斗，这首诗受到列宁的热情称赞。高尔基不仅是伟大的文学家，而且也是杰出的社会活动家。他组织成立了苏联作家协会，并主持召开了全苏**次作家代表大会，培养文学新人，积极投身于保卫世界和平的事业。高尔基的作品自1907年就开始被介绍到中国并得到中国人民的喜爱和欢迎。陆桂荣，江苏省太仓市人，毕业于莫斯科大学语文系，从事高等教育工作40多年。译著包括《融雪季节》、《地槽》、《我的大学》、《后方有后方的责任》等10部中长篇小说及一系列俄苏作家的短篇小说。

《我的大学》：
我终于乘船去喀山大学上学了。
我想上大学的念头是受了一个叫尼古拉·叶夫列伊诺夫的中学生的开导而产生的。他是个可爱的青年，长得又漂亮，有一双似女性般的温柔可亲的眼睛。
当时，他和我住在同一幢房子里，他住在阁楼上。他常常看到我手里拿着书本，这就引起了他对我的注意，于是我们就认识了。不久，叶夫列伊诺夫就让我相信：我有“罕见的科研能力”。
“您天生是为科学服务的！”他对我说，同时潇洒地甩动着他那马鬃似的长发。
那时候我还不懂，即使是个只起着家兔作用的人也是能为科学服务的。可是叶夫列伊诺夫如此令人信服地向我表明：大学里正需要我这样的小伙子。不消说，米哈伊尔·罗蒙诺索夫②的阴魂也被惊动了。叶夫列伊诺夫说，我去喀山后可以住在他那儿，用一个秋季和一个冬季的时间，我就能完成中学的课程。只消考好“随便几门”课程（是这样说的：“随便几门”），大学就会提供我助学金，再过那么五年工夫，我就可以成为一个“学者”了。所有这一切看来都非常简单，因为叶夫列伊诺夫那时只有十九岁，而他又有一颗善良的心。
他考完试后，过了两周，我随他之后，也动身了。
我外婆送我时劝告我：“你啊，不要再跟人家斗气了，你老是使性子，又厉害又高傲！这都是外公传给你的。可你外公算什么？这苦命的老头子，活着活着．结果成了个大傻瓜。你要记住一件事：上帝不判断人们的是非，只有魔鬼才喜欢干这事呢！好啦，告ttpl~……”她一面擦去她那褐色的、松弛的脸颊上的寥寥几颗眼泪，一面说道：“我们再也不能见面了。你这个坐不住的孩子呀，要远走高飞了。可是我呢？我就要死了……”前段时间，我离开了这个可亲的老人，甚至很少和她见面。此时此刻，我突然痛苦地感觉到，以后我再也见不到这个如此贴心的亲人了。
我站在轮船的尾部，瞧着她站在那边码头的边缘，用一只手在自己身上画十字，另一只手拿着旧披巾的一角擦着她的脸和那双充满着对人们无限怜爱的光芒的黑眼睛。
于是我就到了这个半鞑靼式的城市，住在一座狭小的平房住所里。这座小屋孤零零地屹立在一条陋巷尽头的小土山上。小屋的一堵墙对着那片荒凉的、失过火的场地，在这片荒地上，长出了密密层层的野草。在长着苦艾、牛蒡和酸模的杂草丛中，接骨木的灌木林里隆起一片砖瓦建筑物的废墟，废墟下面有一个非常大的地窖。一条条无家可归的狗栖息在那里，也死在那里。这个地窖我将永世不忘，它是我所上的几所大学中的一所。
叶夫列伊诺夫一家（他母亲和她的另外两个儿子）以少得可怜的抚恤金为生。在刚到这儿的最初的日子里，我不时看到这个脸色苍白而又瘦小的寡妇从市场回来，把买回的东西摊在厨房里的桌子上。她十分困窘，发愁地算起了一个难题：不把她自己算在内，怎样用这些小块的肉为这三个身强力壮的小伙子，做顿数量足够的美餐呢？她沉默寡言，在她那双灰色的眼睛里，凝集着宛如一匹耗尽全力的母马的那种绝望、温顺而倔强的劲儿，这匹可怜的马儿拉着大车上山，它知道“我拉不动了”，可是它仍然在拉着！在我到这里的第四天早晨，我到厨房里帮她洗菜，当时孩子们还在睡觉。她低声而谨慎地问我道：“您来这里干什么？”“来念书，上大学。”
