Book Abstract

有一家父子两爪，老子看不惯儿子，儿子也看不惯老子。因为老子有钱舍不得用，有好衣裳舍不得穿，平时穿得破衣烂衫，就像个叫花子；儿子却专拣好的吃，拣好的穿，还欢喜赶时髦、摆阔气，就像个有百万家产的大少爷。因此，老子骂儿子是败家子，大甩料；儿子说老子是守财奴，死脑筋。父子俩经常在家里吵嘴抬杠子。
有一天，儿子见老子还是穿得破衣烂衫，就劝老子了：“现在的世道是只看衣衫不看人，你穿得好，到处有人恭维你；穿得不好，就到处吃瘪。”老子很不以为然：“什么只看衣衫不看人，这是为你吃好穿好找借口！我不相信现在的人都长了—双势利眼。”儿子说：“你若不相信，我们不妨打个赌看看。
”“打什么赌？”“我们父子俩明天早上到茶馆里喝茶吃点心，跑堂的只恭维你不恭维我，我就输，今后我就照你的话办；跑堂的只恭维我不恭维你，你就输，今后你就不要跟我再哕唆。”“好的，就这么办。凭我这么大的年纪，跑堂的也会对我特别恭维。你呀，算输定了。”第二天早上，老头子破衣烂衫地到了茶馆。跑堂的看他这副穷相，冷冰冰地把嘴一噘，手一指，叫老头子在角落里一张三条腿的破桌子旁边坐下既不问他泡不泡茶，也不问他吃什么点心，转身招呼另外的客人去了。老头子受此冷遇，气得胡子都竖起来了。
过了一会儿，老头子的儿子坐着一辆黄包车到了。他身穿全毛西装，小分头梳得油光水滑，鼻梁上架着一副金丝边眼镜，身上洒的是外国香水，手里拿着一根文明棍。他一进馆子的大门，就听见跑堂的高声大喊：“大少爷到！把中间桌上的台布垫起来啊——！”“喳！”三四个跑堂的一拥而上，点头哈腰，齐声请教：“少爷，少爷……”有的忙垫台布，有的忙揩凳子，有的忙泡龙井茶。他们忙着想着：这位大少爷付起小账来一定不会少，说不定比正账还要多。
“请少爷用茶。少爷今天是陪朋友，还是一个人独雅？”“本少爷今天一个人独乐。”“好的，一个人吃安静。少爷先请品茶，吃什么，请少爷吩咐。”“今天简单些，烫个干丝，来一盘水晶肴蹄，定做—小笼蟹黄汤包，一小笼翡翠烧卖。千层油糕、三丁包子、豆沙包子、鲜肉蒸饺各带两只。”“是！请少爷稍待，片刻就到。”一会儿工夫，菜到了，点心也全到了。大少爷嘴里吃着，眼睛瞥见坐在破桌子旁边的老头子，桌上既无茶杯、又无点心，晓得他今天吃瘪了。心想：打赌归打赌，他毕竟是我的老子，我不能只顾自己吃，让他坐在角落里望着，随即向跑堂的招手：“来呀！”“大少爷有什么吩咐？”“你看坐在角落里的那位年纪大的，他比我来得早，到现在还没得吃。你快给他泡壶好茶，点心他要吃多少你就带多少钱都归我算，小账也是我给。”跑堂的觉得奇怪：这位阔少爷和那个穷老头子进门没说一句话，怎么就代他会东了？“请问大少爷，你替他会东，他大概是你少爷的亲眷？”“我……我少爷哪有这样的亲眷！”大少爷生怕这时候说明老头子是他的老子，要被跑堂的看不起，干脆连亲眷也不承认。
跑堂的点点头：“是啊，我也这么想，大少爷不会有这样的穷亲眷。大约是你的邻居？”大少爷一想：承认是邻居就应该说话；一说话，就要喊老子；喊了老子，刚才的谎话就要被戳穿。不能玩儿！“我也没这样的邻居。”哪晓得这位跑堂的实在不知趣，偏偏要打破砂锅问到底：“既不是亲眷，又不是邻居，大少爷为什么要代他会东？”“这个……”大少爷心里急死了：是啊，无亲无故，代他会什么东？如不说出个关系来，这个跑堂的有得问呢。“你实在要问，我就把实话告诉你，不过你要代我保密，不能对外人讲。”“请大少爷放一百个心，我决不会把你的话张扬出去。”大少爷故意把声音放得低低地说：“这个穷老头子的媳妇，长得很漂亮，我跟她常在一起……”“哟唷，原来他的儿媳妇跟大少爷相好，怪不得你要代他会东哩！”“声音放低些！”“喳！”这个跑堂的连走带跑，泡茶带点心，笑嘻嘻地送到老头子的桌上：“老太爷哎，你放开量来吃吧，吃不了就带回去吃，有人代你会东了。”老头子不相信：“少讲鬼话，哪个替我会东？”“中间桌子上的大少爷代你会东。”“什么，他替我会东？”“对了，你应该去谢谢那位大少爷。”“用不着谢，我吃他的是应该的。”“应该的？”乖乖，这个老家伙脸可老哩。“老太爷啊，你说这话不怕人家骂你？”“他敢骂我，我就揍他这个龟孙子！”跑堂的一听老头子的口气，以为他已经知道他的儿媳妇跟大少爷相好，不然说话的口气不会这么硬。
“老太爷，这么说，有件事情你一定知道了。”“什么事情？”“他跟你家儿媳妇相好……”“不错，这件事我早就知道了”“不要叫，喉音放低些。堂口人多，你不怕难为情？”“我不怕难为情。我把实话告诉你，我的儿媳妇跟他相好才几个月，他的妈妈跟我相好已经几十年了！”
