Author Description

王安忆，生于一九五四年，一九六九年初中毕业，一九七〇年赴安徽插队，一九七二年考入江苏省徐州地区文工团，一九七八年调回上海，在《儿童时代》社任编辑。一九八〇年参加中国作协第五期文学讲习所学习，同年年底学习结束回原单位。一九八七年进上海作家协会任专业作家，二〇〇四年调入复旦大学任中文系教授至今。

我们庄所认为美的基本条件是匀称，人们所说“实称”，决不喜欢胖或者瘦。这匀称的观念使得人们善于综合地看问题，决不会简单地服从某一个局部。大家所推崇的小马就是一个典型。她的一切都是在一个黄金分割点上，没有一点是突出的，甚至还有些平淡，可放在一起，却焕发了异常的光彩。因此，她的美丽就是温和含蓄的，有着余地似的，不是要满溢出来，膨胀开来的趋向，而是往里深入，不断有新感受。而她的匀称含蓄则又是到了夺目的地步，是不容人忽视的。小马确是能够证明我们庄对美的认识水平的。
倘若说，小马的美还是在有形的物质范畴里，那么我再可以举出例子，来表明我们庄对无形的精神范畴的美的领悟。
庄上有个大哥，也对我们庄作过一个评价。他说：我们庄最出色的有两个姊妹，同样一段布，在人家身上是这样，在她俩身上却是那样了。这就是刘平子和小瑛子。这评价也是有见地的。这两个姊妹其实长得都很平常，甚至还有着不容小视的缺点。然而，是她们的气质决定了她们超凡出众。她们俩有一种可以称之为“敏感”的气质。刘平子和小瑛子是我们庄上最有个性的姊妹，心气很高，思想大胆，有创造力。刘平子有一回给自己做了件斜襟瘦腰的褂子。当她穿着这件村气的褂子，横端着木盆.去塘边洗衣服时，多少姊妹的眼睛，忽地变暗淡了。她的态度是岸然的，好像在说，这样村气的衣服，我就能穿。小瑛子读过几年书，在个性追求方面，比刘平子更自觉。她是会和说好的未来的女婿在县城的分洪闸下约会的，遇见同庄的人问，就说：这是我的朋友。她们俩都有些独立不羁。她们比其他姊妹们对生活更有热情。这些性质给予她们特殊的风度。人们有时说不好她们，就说她们“洋乎”。这也是一种有含义的定语，它包含了现代、新潮、脱俗等等的概念。
我们庄的这位大哥也是个举足轻重的人物。他在城里读过书，还跟过几年泗州戏班子，是我们庄著名的号子能手。轧场的时候，他赶着头盘磙子，在前头一拉开嗓门，后头一溜牛和驴，便都乖乖地踩着拍点。滚子轱辘轱辘转，豆棵和麦秸“咔嚓”地响，都是为他作伴奏。他的媳妇也是属于“洋乎”一类的，长相虽一般，却有几分学生气。所以大哥是有发言权的，在某种程度上，他领导了我们庄的审美观念，使我们庄对美的认识知识分子化了。美丽的小马是这种认识的化身，刘平子和小瑛子也是。
还有过这么一件事。一个姊妹要出嫁了，其时我正在上海，听到消息就去买了一块衬衣料，准备回去送她。我买的是一段府绸，灰绿色的朝阳格。这段布料遭到我母亲的激烈批评，她一定要我去布店重买一块，认为这样素淡的颜色作为结婚礼是不合适的。照她的意思，乡下人所爱，不是大红就是大绿，为要说服我，她还请来三楼的一个阿婆，她是被认为最懂布料和礼节一类事情的。她也站在我妈妈一边。这两个人真是吵得我耳朵疼。而我到底坚持了下来，没有让步。这段布料很博得了我这姊妹的欢喜。当时她并没说什么，嫁过之后再回门的那日，我们又在一道玩，她低头缝一件新衣服，缝着缝着忽然抬起头，说：你送我的那段布，我要用来做一件小袖子的褂子。“小袖子”，是指衬衫袖口的“克幅”。我们庄姊妹所穿的衬衣一般不上“克幅”，袖子是笼统到底的。这种“小袖子”的衬衣，往往是标志着城里人的身份，也就是“洋乎”的特征之一。听见她这样来安排我送她的布料，我明白我是做对了。
