《腊月·正月》收录的是两个中篇《鸡窝洼人家》和《腊月·正月》。这是两个具有浓厚商州乡土气息的中篇，表现了经济的发展对西北农村传统文化的冲击。
《腊月·正月》是农村改革题材的作品。写的是在知识、名望、家庭经济实力等方面占尽优势的退休教师韩玄子与出身贫寒、地位卑微的普通乡民王才之间的较量。韩玄子想方设法算计王才，竭力阻遏顺应时代潮流的王才的发展，最终陷入四面楚歌。小说表现了改革流潮冲击下的农民自身观念的演变和内心躁动，对民族性格中带有封建文化积淀的种种劣质，进行了深刻的反思。

Author Description

贾平凹，1952年生于陕西丹凤。1975年毕业于西北大学中文系。现为中国作家协会全国委员会主席团委员、陕西省作家协会主席。1974年开始发表作品。著有长篇小说《浮躁》《废都》《土门》《怀念狼》《秦腔》《高兴》《古炉》《带灯》等，诗集《空白》及散文集《商州三录》《心迹》《月迹》《天气》等，另有多部书画集出版。曾获美国美孚飞马文学奖、法国费米那文学奖、法兰西金棕榈文学艺术骑士勋章、第七届茅盾文学奖、第三届鲁迅文学奖、首届“红楼梦奖：世界华文长篇小说”奖、第四届华语文学传媒大奖等国内外奖项四十余种。作品被译为英、法、德、瑞典、俄、日、韩、越等文字在国外出版三十余种。

《腊月·正月》：
这是灰灰家的院落。三间上屋，两间西厦。洼地埋在一片柞树、桦树或者竹林子里，而整个鸡窝洼里，唯有灰灰家的院落是最好的风脉了：在洼的中心，前边伸出去，是一片乎地；背后是漫漫的斜坡，一道山溪从坡顶流下来，绕屋旁流过去，密得不透风的竹子就沿溪水长起来。大路是没有的。以这里为中心，四边的台田块与块之间的界堰，便是路了。条条交错，纷乱中显见规律，向整个洼地扩散开去，活脱脱地像一个筛的模样。鸡窝洼的名字也就从此叫起了。
灰灰家两口人。媳妇烟峰是南山张家坪的女子，长得又粗又高，头发从来没有妥妥帖帖在头上过，常在山洼里没死没活地傻笑。家里原有一个驼背的老爹，喜欢养猫，有事没事就用没牙的嘴嚼着馍花，然后喂在猫的口里。他最看不上她的笑，她一笑，老人就磕起丈二长的既作拐杖又作打狗棍的长杆烟袋。做儿媳的偏不在意，要说就说，要笑就笑，咧一嘴白厉厉的牙，奶子一耸一耸的。两年后，驼背老爹下世了，烟峰便拿着灰灰的事，有人没人就指着骂丈夫的那个红鼻子。三年以后，除了嘴上还是硬活以外，心底里却怯了：因为她不能生上儿子女子来，人面前矮了几分。两口子住在堂屋，这西厦房堆了物什。冬至那天，禾禾就在这里临时住下了。
禾禾原本是东沟羊肠洼的人，爹娘死得早，上中学的时候和灰灰是一个班的。毕业后，去参了军，在甘肃的河西走廊待了五年。复员回来，没有安排工作，灰灰做媒，上门到洼里半梁上的孙家。本该是一个媳妇，一个一岁的儿子，一家滋滋润润的光景，却吵吵闹闹离了婚，只身一人住在这里来了。住在这里，一切都是临时凑合，家里什么也没有带出来：房是人家的，自然归人家；孩子判给女人，狗儿猫儿却属他，但猫儿跟了他一夜，第二天就跑回去了，只有一条狗，他起名叫蜜子，跟前跟后，表示着忠诚。几十天了，两年以前的独身生活又重新恢复，进门一把火，出门一把锁，日子过得没盐没醋地寡味。他天天盼着下雪，雪下起来，他就可以去打猎了。
已经是两个夜里，他没有敢瞌睡，守着火塘，听河边的响动。河边的沙滩上他下了炸药，但狡猾的狐子并不去吃那鸡皮包裹的药丸。今夜里，他下了最后的赌注，将所有的药丸全部安放在扇子岩下的沙滩，心里充满了极度的惶恐和希望。
一堆干柴很快燃尽了，变成了红炭，红炭又化了白灰。他添上了一堆干柴，烟呼地腾上来，小小的屋里烟罩了一切。一切都暗下来，雪的白光从窗口透人，屋子里似乎又冷了许多。他趴下去，眯着眼睛拼命用嘴吹，忽地火苗蹿上来，越蹿越旺，眼见得松树柴棒上嗞嗞往外冒着松油，火苗就高高地离开了柴堆，呈现出一种蓝光，蓝光的边沿又镶着了红道，样子很是好看。接着火苗就全附在柴堆上，噼噼啪啪响得厉害。他笨拙地盘起双腿，用手去蘸那松油往脚上的冻疮上涂，松油烫得很，一接触冻疮就钻心地痛，痛里却有了几分舒服的奇痒。后来这一切都安静下来，伸着手，弓着腰，将那颗脑袋夹在两腿之间，享受着火的温暖。
堂屋里，灰灰已经起来小解了，尿桶里发出很响的“咚咚”声。他猛地直起腰来，一直听着那声音结束，心里泛上一种酸酸的醋意。
