Content Description

《在世遗作》是奥地利作家穆齐尔1936年出版一个小品文自选集。其中包括了一些短小的叙事性作品，例如《捕蝇纸》、《换一种眼光看羊》等。这些作品是随笔精神的一种体现：通过对细微、渺小的对象的仔细观察，从而展现了对人的生活和心灵的微观世界所作的思考，而微观世界的变化映射大时代背景下主观世界。作品能体现人性更大的关怀，很有出版价值。

Author Description

罗伯特·穆齐尔（1880-1942），奥地利作家，二十世纪最重要的德语文学大师之一，与卡夫卡、普鲁斯特、乔伊斯并列为二十世纪最重要的伟大作家。代表作有长篇小说《没有个性的人》、《学生托乐思的迷惘》，短篇小说集《三个女人》，散文集《在世遗作》等。译者张荣昌，北京大学德语系教授，资深翻译家。

有些作家留下的遗产，是贵重的礼物；但一般来说，遗著与因歇业而清仓大拍卖有某种可疑的相似之处。尽管如此，它们仍还受到喜爱，这种喜爱可能来自广大读者对一位作家怀有一种情有可原的偏爱，而这位作家则最后一次给读者找了点儿事做。可是不管怎么说，不管对一部遗作何时有价值、何时仅仅是一个有价值的商品这个问题可以作出些什么推测，我反正已经决定，趁局面还没有发展到我无能为力的地步，我禁止出版自己的遗作。要这样做的最可靠的办法就是，我在世时自行出版它，无论这样的解释是否能让所有人都搞明白。
然而，人们还能谈得上在世吗？德意志民族的作家不是早就已经比自己活得长久了吗？看上去是这样。准确地说，就我记忆所及，情况看上去一直都是这样，只不过这段时间以来事态进入了一个关键性阶段。用预制部件生产鞋子，生产适应个人特殊需要的现成西服，这种时代似乎也想生产出用预制的内部和外部组件装配起来的作家。依循自己尺度的作家，几乎在所有地方都过着一种深沉、离群索居的生活，但又不具备死人的本事：死人不需要房子，不需要吃喝。在世时期对遗著真是有利呀。这对这本小书的命名及其产生不无影响。
当然，人们得更加小心谨慎地对待自己的最后遗言，哪怕它们只是假装说出来的。在一个雷声隆隆和唉声叹气的世界里，只出版些小故事和小观察；有这么多大事要事不谈，净谈些琐屑小事；对远离事件中心的现象耿耿于怀。毫无疑向，有些人可能会觉得这是不足之处吧，而我则乐意承认，出版决定也曾引起我的种种忧虑。但是首先，作家所发表的意见，较之不受它们影响在宇宙空间里奔驰的两亿七千万立方米的地球，它们的份量孰轻孰重，总还是有某种差别的吧，这是无论如何都必须加以承受的。其次，读者也许会认为这本书凝聚力不足，为此我或许可以援引我的主要作品，它们可能最不缺乏那种力量，但想要继续写作它们，恰恰需要有这样一种过渡性出版物。最后，当有人建议我出这本书，并且组成该书的一篇篇短文又摆在我面前时，我发现，其实它们并不像我所担忧的那样经不起时间考验。
