Author Description

戴夫·艾格斯（1970— ），美国新生代重要作家、编辑、出版人。艾格斯的父母在他念大学时相继患病去世，他中止学业，照顾八岁的弟弟。2000年，艾格斯出版回忆录《怪才的荒诞与忧伤》，一炮走红，被《时代周刊》等媒体评为“年度好书”，入围普利策奖。艾格斯的代表作还包括反映苏丹内战中青少年历险生活的传记小说《什么是什么》（2006）、纪实作品《泽恩图》（2009）、关于网络社会的反乌托邦小说《圆环》（2013）。他还应电影导演斯派克·琼斯邀请，将美国绘本大师桑达克的经典绘本《野兽出没的地方》改编为电影剧本，并于2009年电影上映之际出版小说《野兽国》。他新一部作品是2014年出版的小说《你们的父亲，他们在哪儿？还有先知们，他们长生不老吗？》。艾格斯也是文学杂志《蒂莫西·麦克斯维尼季刊》和麦克斯维尼出版社的创始人。

艾伦·克莱一觉醒来，飞机已经到了沙特阿拉伯的吉达。日子是二〇一〇年五月三十日。他在飞机上度过了两天。
在内罗毕时，他偶遇了一个女人。等航班时，这女人就坐在他旁边。她身材高挑，曲线优美，耳朵上戴着一对细小的金耳环。她面色红润，说话轻声细语。如果拿这个女人同他日常生活中低头不见抬头见的许多人相比的话，艾伦更加喜欢她。她说她生活在纽约州的北部地区，距离他位于波士顿市郊的家不太远。

但是，当初做决策时，他并不知道它们是目光短浅的、愚蠢的权宜之计。他和同伴们并不知道他们当时的那些决策会使他们、使艾伦沦落到这般田地——差不多身无分文、几乎无业可就，成为一家咨询公司的老板，同时也是唯一的员工，而办公室就是自己的家。
