作为短篇小说大师，基罗加是拉美文学现代性过程中一个关键人物。他对后代作家的影响和垂范作用可以在马尔克斯和科塔萨尔等人的作品中看到。科塔萨尔极力推崇基罗加小说中的现代性，把他奉为自己的先行者。通过考察基罗加、博尔赫斯、鲁尔福、科塔萨尔的作品，我们大概可以看出短篇小说这一文学体裁在拉美的发展和成就。

Author Description

奥拉西奥·基罗加（1878—1937），出生于乌拉圭的萨尔托市一个上层资产阶级家庭，他刚刚快两个半月大的时候，父亲在打猎归来时因意外擦枪走火死亡。从此，亲朋好友的一个又一个非正常死亡事件伴随了基罗加一生。基罗加从小就表现出对手工和体力活动的兴趣。他青年时代就喜欢自行车运动，迷恋各类机械和木工手艺，化学实验和摄影是他的终身爱好。1904年，他变卖家业，远离城市文明，过起了与世隔绝的现代鲁宾孙生活。他亲手造房子，造独木舟，种过棉花、马黛茶，驯养过野兽，酿过酒……丰富的人生经历和生活的磨难化为素材使他写出了出色的文学作品。基罗加是现代西班牙语文学里第一个高度自觉的专业短篇小说作家，一生创作了将近200个短篇小说。他的短篇小说可读性强，深受历代读者喜爱，在西班牙语世界家喻户晓。1937年2月18日，得知自己患了癌症的基罗加在布宜诺斯艾利斯的一家医院里自杀。

戴永沪，北京大学西语系西班牙语本科，硕士；美国Tulane University西班牙语博士。现为美国南阿肯色大学英语和外语系西班牙语副教授。译有《鲁文•达里奥短篇小说选》《达里奥诗选》。
