请从头到尾地回顾一下你工作过程中的所有环节。实际的工作时间有多少？等待的时间有多少？大量的研究案例显示，工作等待的时间占了很大的比例。这些花在等待上的时间是显而易见的，尤其是在那些原材料已经堆积到天花板的工厂里。在服务领域，你同样会遇到这样的问题——只是很难看到而已！你可以清点一下在你的电脑或办公桌上有多少电子邮件和电话留言或者工作安排在等待完成。
糟糕的事情往往是在等待中发生的。在制造业，原材料可能会因此而过期或损坏。在服务业，信息可能会因此而失去时效性。
