要求1：词汇要求
目标分数为6分的考生需要能够熟练应用4 000个左右的词。
目标分数为7分以上的考生需要能够熟练应用至少5 000个词。
*什么是“熟练应用”？
① 能够快速、准确地识别词汇，并熟悉其各种词性和词义变化
如：“successful”（“成功的”）和“successive”（“连续的”）的含义，其实毫不相关；又如：“respectful”（“有礼貌的”）和“respective”（“各自的”）的含义也并不存在关联。
② 能够正确地理解单词在不同上下文中的不同含义
如：…even a new type of glass fashioned of nuclear waste in order to dispose of that unwanted material.
句中“fashion”一词的意思，并非常见的“时尚”，而是动词词性的“制造”。
如：The field was launched, and the term “artificial intelligence” coined.
句中“coin”一词的意思，并非常见的“硬币”之意，而是动词词性的“初次使用”。
以上两个单词也都因此成为所在文章的出题点，这说明了命题者对于考查词汇多样化词义的重视程度。

2. 语言基础的准备：精读
精读是巩固英语基础的最重要手段之一，它有着细致的要求。考生要按步骤细致、耐心地完成才会收到成效。
*精读的作用
精读可以让你熟悉词汇和语法，认知生词，了解篇章结构。这些都是语言考试必定考查的内容。
*精读为什么可以取代“背单词”？
单纯地背词汇手册，看似效率比较高，但实际上词汇表里每个词都会有若干个解释，而在某特定的上下文中，某个单词通常只会有唯一正确的含义，这就使得单纯背词汇表的同学遭遇“不知道这个词在这句话里是什么意思”的窘境。这是脱离句子背单词不可避免的弊病！极端状况是：只背词汇表极有可能出现把“How are you？”和“How old are you？”理解成“怎么是你？”和“怎么老是你？”的怪象！脱离句子背单词是个传统误区！
而精读以理解句子和文章为最终目的，这与阅读考试的要求一致。把单词放在句子里去理解，这个单词才是活的！
*什么是精读？
精读就是把文章逐字、逐句、逐段、逐篇读懂并进行文章写法和结构分析的精细阅读过程。
*精读的过程
首先，要以“读懂句子”为目的，解决过程中的问题。例如，遇到生词要查字典，并且在字典对该词的若干解释中找到一个最符合上下文语意要求的解释，标注在文中；遇到自己曾经见过的词，而你了解的词义却无法使句子理解通畅，那么也需要查字典确认是否这个词有你不了解的词义，以及该词义是否能让句子含义顺畅；查生词时不仅要注意词义，还要注意发音，因为这些词汇在听力和口语考试中都有可能出现或使用，了解了读音就可以“事半功倍”。
其次，在了解句子内容的前提下，应该思考一下句子之间的内容如何连贯成一个段落，作者用到了哪些关系词使句子之间的关系得到固化；细节句如何支持主题句；段落之间（即主题句之间）的相互关联如何完成。对这些问题的思考不仅有利于答题，对写作思路的改善也无疑有着至关重要的作用。
最后，在每天精读新的文章之前，应该熟练朗读前一天精读过的文章，并且做到“口脑同步”，即朗读的同时理解句子含义，而不是只用口来读。这个过程可能会相对漫长，一开始无法同步的同学宁肯让朗读的速度稍慢，也需要做到同步，然后再在能够理解的前提下重复朗读，直到朗读速度大致达到听力的语速为止。这个过程的目的是：巩固前面精读过程中的生词；熟悉生词的发音以备在听力和口语中出现和使用；熟悉长句的断句规则对听力和口语也有好处。
以上步骤缺少一个都不是完整的“精”读过程！
*精读的内容
因为目前的阶段性目标是雅思考试，所以最好以雅思阅读真题作为精读材料。不建议考生用小说、散文等作为精读材料，因为雅思阅读大都是说明文和议论文，记叙文极少，因此用记叙文作为精读材料恐怕无法满足日后在答题过程中的语言风格要求。
*精读的进度安排
这一点因人而异，基础好的同学在精力允许的前提下，可以一天精读2至3篇文章；基础薄弱的同学每天能够按要求精读1篇文章也不错。在精读的过程中，学生也可以根据自己能力的提高和文章难度的变化随时调整每天的精读数量。
*精读的数量要求
无论考生基础如何，都建议在正式练习答题技巧前完成至少30篇雅思阅读真题文章的精读。精读的数量当然是越多越好，但是30篇已经是底线。在完成这些内容的精读之前，考生恐怕很难有能力对答题策略和技巧做出太多理性评判。
*精读的困难
很多考生都觉得精读耗时耗力，因而不愿坚持下去。只能说雅思考试是负责任的语言能力测试。从根本上讲，它的测试目的是语言能力，而不是应试技巧。语言能力没有本质提高，想要使成绩达到“质变”是天方夜谭，而精读是提高语言能力最行之有效的方法。所以请记住：要坚持！
*精读与答题技巧冲突吗？
精读的目的是提高语言能力，简而言之，就是让自己具备“读懂文章中任意句子的能力”。因此，精读时不建议考生过多考虑题目。
而答题技巧的目的是用来提高答题的准确度和速度。在有良好语言基础的前提下，使用主题阅读法完全可以在只阅读文章30%～40%的情况下就完成题目。然而，虽然余下的60%～70%在考场上不需要考生阅读，但是考生仍然应该具备读懂它们的语言能力。
多样化的题型
雅思阅读考试的一大特点就是题型众多。13种题型虽然看似复杂，但我们仍然可以把它们进行以下归类：

另外，很多题型实际上都可以互相转换，例如：
√ 将单句填空的每个句子连接成一个短文，空格保持不变，就成为段落填空
√ 给段落—信息匹配题型增加几个干扰选项并将题目放在文章前，就成为标题选择题
√ 每个单选题的四个选项本身都相当于四个简单的判断题
√ 将填空题的空格进行疑问句改写，就成为简答题
…………
因此，在读懂文章的前提下，正确地理解题目的考查意图也是答题过程的重中之重。
在后面章节的讲解过程中，考生会发现：题型虽然变化多端，但考查目的都与文章或段落主题有着千丝万缕的联系。因此读懂主题并找到题目与主题的关联，才是快速、准确答题的关键所在。
