第二节 商务英语的认识视角
从以上这些论述中可以看出，专家学者在使用商务英语这个概念时所指不完全相同，甚至还使用了不同的术语，例如商务英语、经贸英语、商务用途英语、国际商务英语。这从一个方面说明商务英语外延广阔，内涵丰富。
同时，对上述各家之说进行仔细分析，我们还是能够找出一些规律性的东西出来。
首先，上述各家看待商务英语的角度可以归纳成三种类型。一是把商务英语看作专门用途英语的一种，如l，3，4，5．6，7。二是从语言特征的角度把商务英语看作英语的一个功能变体或品种，如2，8，10，12。三是把商务英语看作一个学科或专业，如5，9，10，11，13，14。我们在此把这三个角度分别称作分析商务英语的三种视角或路径：专门用途英语视角、英语的社会功能变体视角、学科专业视角，并将在下面有关章节详细讨论。
其次，国外专家学者多从专门用途英语视角来认识商务英语，很少从英语的社会功能视角来看，没有国外学者把商务英语看作一个学科专业。中国专家学者则不同。大多数认同专门用途英语的视角，也认为商务英语具有自身的语言特征，是英语的一种社会功能变体。与国外同行不同的最明显之处是把商务英语当作一个学术研究和教学实践的独特领域。
其实，国内外学者之间的认识异同是可以理解的。专门用途英语、商务英语这些概念发源于国外。我们是在培养国际商务人才需要的背景下把它们引进中国来的。在国外，专门用途英语是一种英语教学体系，是一个服务其他专业的行业(Hutchison&Waters l987)，因此它没有被提到专业或学科的层次。(值得注意的是，对专门用途英语的学科地位西方近年来似乎有些变化。Swales(2000：62)认真地提出了专门用途英语作为一个完全的职业(full profession)或语言科学之下的一个分支学科(clear sub—discipline in the language sciences)的问题。)在我国则不同。从事国际商务所需的商务英语人才是英语专业人才，需要通过专业训练才能培养出来，而如何培养这类人才需要科学研究。这就使采取专业、学科的角度成为合乎逻辑的认识商务英语的视角。

对外经济贸易大学出版社最新推出了大型外语学术专著系列——《当代外国语言文学学术文库》，邀请我为文库写序，借此机会，谈谈我个人对外国语言文学研究的一些认识和感受。综观21世纪的外国语言文学研究，就语言学研究而言，形式语言学理论和功能语言学理论继续对抗和对话，认知语言学理论和社会文化理论发展迅速，各种语言学的理论思潮试图从不同的角度解释语言事实；在应用方面，语言学更加广泛地与多学科交叉，运用和借鉴包括数理逻辑、计算机科学、心理学、神经科学、认知科学、生态科学、经济学等各学科在内的研究成果和方法，不断凸显出语言学作为人文科学和自然科学交叉学科的地位。就文学研究而言，英美文学研究受经济全球化浪潮的冲击，文学及文论研究都关注文化全球化与本土性的关系。文化全球化的研究引发了文学现代性、后现代性和后殖民性的思考，文学和语言学的研究相互影响和交融日益明显，文学研究越来越多地引入语言学研究的方法，如话语分析等，反之亦然。我国的外国语言文学研究在全球化和中国入世以后与国际学术界的交流更加密切，发展更加迅速，同时，我们仍清楚地看到，国内的外国语言文学研究依然存在“三张皮”现象，第一张皮是“汉语与外语”研究的合作与交流不够；第二张皮是“语言与文学”研究的沟通与对话不够；第三张皮是“英语与其他外语”研究的来往和交叉不够，“三张皮”极大地阻碍着外国语言文学学科的发展。
