Book Abstract

这意思就是它超越了通常的对立。断片里逐级举了好几233个例子。先是在诗内部，浪漫派诗综合了所有体裁，包括人工诗与自然诗（民间诗）；接着，往上升一级，它综合了不同类型的话语（诗只是其中的一个例子）：诗、雄辩、哲学，或者诗与散文。然后再超越言语范围：它综合了诗与生活、形式与题材、智力与直觉，或者在创作领域里则是天才与批评意识。施莱格尔顺便还取消了诗与非诗这个传统的区别，因此，他也改变了诗的定义：从已经具有诗歌性质的孩童叹息直至最复杂的诗歌构造之间存在着不间断的运动：诗歌在产生时就可以通过最简单的话语形式来把握。
句[5]探讨浪漫派诗提出的另外两组对立：解释这句话的难处在于施莱格尔的表达法本身也具有对立面交流的性质，而这种交流又正是这句话所要说明的。在第一个从句（“它能够全然消失在它所复现的事物之中”）和第二个从句的开头（“以致大家认为它唯一的、最高的目的就是……”）之后，大家等待的结尾是“复现世界，而不是表达个体”之类的话。施莱格尔好像认为这句话的开头正好表达了同实际上说的相反的内容（对立面的统一），他接下来就说：“刻画形形色色的诗的个性”。在这句话的第二部分又出现了同样的颠倒：在“然而，没有任何一种形式能够充分表达作者的精神”之后，大家期待着出现“以致某个作家只想表现自我时，出乎意料会写出一本小说来”这样的续句。但是，后件又一次被颠倒了：“某个只想写本小说的艺术家出乎意料会把自我表现出来”。这种连接法可以说是违反逻辑的；但是，浪漫派诗就是如此；这里施莱格尔在设法形象地表示他正在说的内容。这样，在表达与摹仿，在（主观的）透明性与不透明性之间的对立便消除了。

象征是美学和文艺理论里的一个重要问题，它同时还涉及到心理学、逻辑学、语言学、符号学等同人类思维有关的许多学科。国内虽时有论及这一问题的文章，但对象征理论从历史方面系统地进行论述的专著却尚未见到。经钱中文先生推荐，并征得了作者的同意，我翻译了托多罗夫的这本《象征理论》。茨维坦·托多罗夫（Tzvetan Todorov）是保裔法国籍人，1939年生于索菲亚，现为法国国家科研中心研究员，艺术与语言研究中心主任。他60年代初赴法随著名符号学家罗兰·巴尔特学习文学理论，博士论文为《文学与意义》，1967年在巴黎正式出版。托多罗夫在法国以介绍俄国的形式主义文学理论开始出名，他的第一本书《文学理论》（1965年）就是俄国形式主义理论家的文集。早期他还同法国符号学家巴尔特、格雷马斯等人一起研究叙述学，对叙事作品进行结构分析，著有《（十日谈）的语法》（1969年）等书。同时他又发表了《诗学》（1968年，收入《什么是结构主义？》一书）、《散文的诗学》（1971年）等著作。1977与1978两年，他连续发表了《象征理论》和《象征表达与诠释》，第一本书着重分析了历史上诸家有关象征的学说，后一本书分为两个部分：第一部分是托多罗夫自己关于语言象征的看法，第二部分是诠释理论，主要介绍古代圣经注释家和语文学家的诠释策略。
