承恩寺暗藏顺治
虎丘山面见康熙
顺治十八年顺治帝突然“驾崩”，其子康熙八岁继位。康熙逐渐长大了，也已得知老皇上自己的父亲顺治没有死，而是上五台山出家当和尚了。
顺治帝的确没有死，而是带着孝庄太后为其安排的家奴济元为保护者，一起上五台山做了和尚。
康熙总是想见见自己的父亲——顺治帝，但几次上五台山，总没有如愿以偿，这种思父之心时时涌在心头。
这年，康熙决定第二次南巡，以察民情，看黄河、长江防汛情况。
顺治在五台山上听说康熙南巡，他也想到江南走走，如有机会，可以看看儿子。于是便带着济元直下江南，先到了虎丘承恩寺，见到住持方丈际志长老诚恳地道：“贫僧从五台山上来贵地，想在贵宝刹挂单！”
“不方便，御驾就要到了。”
“长老，贫僧也为瞻仰圣容才赶来的，您就成全弟子一片至诚吧！”
际志长老见顺治面善，举止文雅，不可能会是刺客，就应允了。不过，他又千叮咛万嘱咐一番，千万不可造次添乱子。顺治满口答应。
一日，康熙来到虎丘山，寺内外一阵忙碌，隆重接驾。康熙仰看这山上的承恩寺巍峨耸立，金碧辉煌。这江南山景华翠摇曳，更是一番人间仙境。心想：“这地方可比五台山好多了，若父皇能在此出家修行，倒使我欣慰了。”
康熙边走边观景边向际志方丈问话，方丈小心翼翼地回圣上所问。
康熙进香之后出大雄宝殿，举目一看，殿前长着两棵老龙柏树，像两条龙相互揖让着。随问道：“这两棵柏树古朴苍郁，长得奇特，相互间如两个人彬彬有礼的对着，有什么说道吗？”
际志方丈道：“回皇上，这两棵柏树名叫双龙揖让树。”
康熙道：“双龙在此揖让，有意思，御笔伺候。”
左右应声而动，康熙提笔写了三个大字“双龙柏”后莞尔一笑，又吩咐道：“镌大石立此永为纪念！”际志方丈忙连声“谢万岁！”其他众沙弥也立刻附和高呼万岁。
康熙余兴未尽，顺口道：“这样吧，朕出一联，请长老来对！”提笔写道：
一寺双龙揖让，有情才得邂逅；际志长老想了想：“两棵树可成双龙揖让，如果指当今皇上，只有一龙，谈不上双龙了，这可如何对好呢？”于是就道：“臣僧文思不敏，不善应对。”康熙见众僧围着，说道：“今日无遮大会，佛前平等，哪位高僧能对上，请不必惶恐，偶有不当，朕亦不怪，不必禁忌！”
“我来！”
“这是哪个冒失鬼，敢在皇上面前自称我字？”际志回头一看，正是五台山来挂单那个客僧。他顿慌起来，想：“这个和尚，连‘臣僧’都不说，我、我的，怕是要闯祸了。”只听那位五台山的和尚对出下联是：
九皋孤鹤盘桓，无意也在翱翔。
康熙听了道：“好！是出家人的话，切合切合，再出一联请对！”
五台山那和尚道：“皇帝请讲！”
际志长老听了鼻子尖上浸出汗来，深悔不该让这个和尚在寺中留住，那“皇帝”二字乃皇上长辈所唤，岂是你这个野僧叫的。再看看皇上倒并未见怪，只见康熙想了想，随口道：
山石岩下古木枯，此木为柴；
这是个文字分合联，分别为“岩”、“枯”、“柴”三字的分合，文气连贯自然。际志想：“这回可难住那狂客僧了，你认输吧！”不料那客僧回道：
白水泉边子女好，少女真妙。
康熙一听是对出了“泉”、“好”、“妙”三字，无懈可击。但挑剔道：“出家人怎么夸起女子来了？”
