Author Description

蒋勋，作家、画家、诗人、美学大师， 1972年负笈法国巴黎大学艺术研究所，曾任台湾《雄狮》美术月刊主编、东海大学美术系主任，现任台湾《联合文学》社长。
美学、史学、佛学等多元熏习，使蒋勋自在地行走在繁华与废墟的时代迁变里而不虞元气消散。蒋勋的散文，有悲情而无愤意，正如张晓风所言，蒋勋善于把低眉垂睫的美、沉哑暗灭的美唤醒。
多年来，蒋勋以文章和画作阐释生活之美与生命之好，深入浅出地引领人们进入美的殿堂，并多次举办画展，深获各界好评。近年来，他专事两岸美学教育的推广，著有《美的曙光》、《美的沉思》、《孤独六讲》、《天地有大美》、《因为孤独的缘故》、《爱欲书》等多种著作。

Book Abstract

我在印度恒河岸边看到的处理肉身的方式，却与古代埃及完全不同。
古印度的肉身充满动态，打破了埃及的中轴线规则，肉身丰腴，饱涨着性的原始欲望。肉身像热带的果实，流溢着甜蜜熟烂的汁液，好像知道生命短暂虚幻，要在消逝以前尽情让肉身享乐。
古代翻译成鹿野苑的城，在瓦拉纳希(Varanasi)附近，是佛陀悟道以后第一次为大众说法的地方。
我对佛国净土有不实际的幻想，第一次到了现场，才发现沿河原来都是火葬场。
悟道的开示，毕竟正是要从这么具体的肉身的存在与幻灭开始说起吧。
河边一座一座以篝木架成的床，有些简陋草率，有些繁复讲究，上面都躺着一具等待处理的肉身。
肉身四周堆放着鲜花。亲朋环绕，诵念祝祷，僧侣作法，燃起篝火。火光熊熊，浓烟一卷一卷升腾，肉身焦苦煎熬，仿佛在火光中嘶叫，空气中都是肉身的腐烂浊臭，混合着鲜花甜熟糜烂的气味。
“身坏命终，又复受身——”
《阿含经》的句子变成了具象的画面。肉身败坏，烧焦、断裂，头、手、足、躯干，随灰烬一起推入大河。大河浩浩荡荡，漂流着许许多多“身坏命终”的肉身。
同时，黎明的日光初起，有妇人怀抱新生的婴儿，走进大河沐浴。亲友环绕，诵念祝福。同一条河流的水，安息过肉身的结束，也淋洒在婴儿头上，迎接肉身的开始。
在这河边说法，“身坏命终”就有了现成的教材吧。
原来，“肉身”，是要做“肉身”的功课的。
从原始佛教来看，“身坏命终”之后，期盼修行到“不复受身”。
不再有肉身，不再接受新的肉身，不再重回人间，所以用“解脱”来说死亡。
“解脱”是说——像解开纽扣、脱去衣服一样，不再受肉身牵累。
如果，还有“肉身”，是因为“无明所系，爱缘不断”。
还有“爱”，还有“缘分”，牵连不断，这个肉身就还会再回来，寻找新的肉身，再一次受肉身的生老病死之苦。
我听到病房走廊上的声音来来去去，是那些“爱缘不断”的肉身在踟蹰徘徊不去吗？
朋友嘲笑我，修行到“不复受身”，谈何容易。
一点点牵挂，一点点放不下的爱恋，一点点舍不掉的贪痴，一点点缘分舍不掉，就又要回来了。
我总觉得长廊尽头，有许多赖在门口不走的肉身，因为还有什么东西没有带，还有什么事情没有办好，或者，因为亲人的哭声哀嚎，爱、恨，都舍不得，使那已经走到门口的肉身又要回头了。
“身坏命终，又复受身——”
我怆然一笑，知道自己也是不容易利落走掉的肉身之一。

在加护病房的几天，看到许多肉身送进来、又送出去。肉身来来去去，有时时间很短。
肉身旁边守候着亲人，焦虑、哭泣、惊慌。
肉身送出去的时候，盖上被单，床被推走，会听到床边亲人无法抑制地大声嚎啕的声音。
隔着围屏，或隔着墙，隔着长长的走廊，哀号的声音传来，还是非常清晰。
肉身的来来去去很快，有时候一天会听到好几次哭嚎的声音。
如果在深夜，那声音听起来，特别凄怆荒凉，在空洞的长廊里，留着久久散不去的萦绕纠缠的回声。
我低声诵经，在无眠的暗夜，好像试图借着朗读经文的声音，与那久久不肯散去的回声对话。
“身坏命终，又复受身——”
《阿含经》说到肉身败坏、生命终了的时刻，却又恐瞑悲悯着还会有另外一个肉身在等待着。
……
我固执骄傲、自大、贪于爱美与尊严的肉身，却在这么卑微的肉身前面，起了巨大的震动。
我知道，肉身的功课，或许没有做完，也没有做好。
许多赖在甬道门口、扒着门框、不肯离去的肉身，一点也不悲壮尊严。一点也不骄傲自信。
使我深深咀嚼着“好死不如赖活”这么粗鄙的民间谚语。
这么粗鄙，却这么真实。
肉身能够像尸毗王，为了救下一只鸽子，把身上的肉，一片一片切割下来，喂给老鹰吃吗？
肉身可以像萨埵那太子，投身跃下悬崖，粉身碎骨，把这身体喂给饥饿的老虎吃吗？
敦煌壁画里一幕一幕舍去肉身的图像，与甬道里匆匆忙忙、来来去去的许多肉身交错而过。
我在寻找自己的肉身，想要跟自己好几世、好几劫来的肉身，相见相认。
