Book Abstract

在高中时代，我和根生是校友，他家是从陕西汉中移民过来的，少年丧父，家里很穷。

小混子龙龙是当时刑警队大队长的儿子，看上了校花李莉，老来学校骚扰李莉。根生和李莉是一个班的，两人关系有点朦胧。
一天下午放学，龙龙又在学校门口拦截李莉，根生也在场，根生自然不敢和龙龙碰硬，温和地谎称李莉是自己表妹，让龙龙不要这么做。龙龙有个马仔认识根生，立刻戳穿了根生的谎言。龙龙隐约觉得根生是个情敌，在校门口勇猛地暴揍了根生一顿根生的脸被打成猪头就不说了，关键是他借来的逍遥裤被扯了个无法修补的大口子。这个很要命，逍遥裤是老板裤的升级版，是八十年代高中潮男们心目中的圣物。借给根生裤子的男孩气糊涂了，天天找根生赔裤子。
那条裤子80块钱，根生哪有钱赔这么贵的裤子啊，只好灰头土脸地赖着，惹得借裤子的男孩躁狂不已。男孩躁狂是有道理的，当时剩一个月就高考了，高考结束后，再去哪里找根生要裤子钱呢。
离高考只剩三天的时候，男孩花了二十块钱请来龙龙主持公道，把根生约到滨河公园，打算暴力讨债。据跟踪偷窥的目击者称，谈了不到五分钟，龙龙就拿出螺丝刀威胁根生，根生抢过螺丝刀，给龙龙脸上来了两下。
为了一条裤子，龙龙破了相，根生被抓到刑警队，耽误了高考。本来以根生的成绩，清华、北大不敢说，复旦、武大还是随便考的。大概还是家里穷的缘故，根生没有复读，去渭东乡政府当了临时工，管收发的。几年后，听说李莉嫁给了他。
毕业后八年，我在一次喜宴上再见根生。听旁人说，根生混得不赖，最近刚承包了渭东水泥厂。
当时老父亲刚把一座煤矿交给我经营，可惜市场低迷，煤卖不上价。我问根生平时在哪里进煤，能不能照顾照顾老同学，价格好商量。
根生问我精煤多少钱一吨？我说市场价90，你要，我便宜10块钱。

根生的脑子真的进水了，他居然按合同把剩下的钱按月准时结给我。我真欣慰，难得有土老板能戴瑞士表结账的。头一批煤款结到七成时，我赶紧发给根生第二批煤，真有心给他降点价，可根生没提，我也忍住没主动张口。
遇到根生这样反自然的客户，高兴是必须的，就是担心被别的煤老板挖走，所以我从来不会跟别的煤老板提半点根生的消息。后来我才知道，其他煤老板跟我想的一样。
没多久，煤价开始持续走低，老客户流失的厉害。一打听，是有人坏了规矩，出煤的价格低于成本价。按跳楼价卖煤，那不是自杀吗，谁这么狠？
没错，就是根生这孙子。
