《文学大纲》始作于1923年，自1924年1月起连载于郑振铎先生主编的由商务印书馆出版的《小说月报》，至1927年成书，共连载三年，分4大卷，约80万字。本书依时间先后将中外文学史及各国名著一一叙述，在开阔了广大文学工作者的眼界的同时，也在介绍世界文学历史、加强中外文学交流和比较研究等方面产生了巨大的影响。它打通了全人类的文学世界，彻底破除了陈腐荒谬的“欧洲中心论”，是一部真正意义上的世界文学史。

Content Description

《文学大纲》共分四十六章，所述上起人类开化史之初页，下迄20世纪前期中国新文学运动风起云涌之时，将东西方于世界文学史上的著名作家及其代表著作均作简要概述，不仅论及文学（包括诗歌、散文、小说、戏曲、文学理论），还兼及史学、古籍、文字、绘画等诸多领域，特具世界文学辞书的性质，引导读者对世界文学史概况有一个较为全面清晰的了解与认识。

Author Description

郑振铎（1898—1958），笔名西谛，浙江永嘉（今温州）人，祖籍福建长乐。著名作家、文学史家。1917年入北京铁路管理学校。五四运动爆发后，与瞿秋白等编辑《新社会》旬刊。1920年创办《人道》月刊，并与沈雁冰等人组织“民众戏剧社”，编辑《戏剧月刊》。1921年组织“文学研究会”，负责编辑《文学旬刊》，出版《小说月报》后任其主编。1922年创办《儿童世界》。1925年加入上海学术研究会，与叶圣陶合编《公理日报》，并先后任复旦、暨南两大学讲师。1927年被迫旅居英、法等国。回国后历任上海商务印书馆编辑、燕京大学教授、暨南大学文学院院长，主编《文学》月刊、《世界文库》等。抗战期间参加“中国文艺家协会”等左翼团体，与胡愈之等人组织复社，出版《鲁迅全集》《列宁文选》等。1949年后历任北京大学文学研究所所长、文化部副部长、中国科学院文学研究所所长、考古研究所所长等职。1958年率文化代表团出访前苏联，因飞机失事遇难。
郑振铎一生致力于中国古典文学、民间文学、戏曲等史料搜集整理，有《插图本中国文学史》《中国俗文学史》《中国文学研究》等力作，创作方面有《山中杂记》《欧行日记》《海燕》等，译著《飞鸟集》《新月集》等。
