Author Description

林奕华，横跨剧场、舞蹈、电影、教育等不同领域的香港多栖创作人、批评家。1989—1995年旅居伦敦期间，自组“非常林奕华”舞蹈剧场。1995年回港后致力推动舞台剧创作，编导作品超过五十部。1999年获香港艺术家年奖。1994年凭电影《红玫瑰与白玫瑰》获台湾金马奖最佳改编剧本奖。自1997年起至今担任香港大学通识教育、香港浸会大学电影学院、香港演艺学院人文学科讲师。其批评文章散见《新京报》、《南方都市报》、《外滩画报》、《上海壹周》、《明日风尚》、《号外》等各地报章杂志。

自恋
一般人都认为文化人的职责是对文化现象进行分析、阐释、评论。他们都是剖开表象让问题核心得以曝光的“医者” ，其实不可避免的，文化人的手术刀也将同时刺向自己，让体内的“病症”被看见。 “又是医者，又是病人”的双重身份未必会被当事人承认——文化人最常用的是“站在客观位置上发声”的语法——但有经验的读者肯定能在论述中读到文化人（们）或潜藏或已浮上水面的“病” 。文化评论是一种视角没错，但它也是“自我治疗” 。在我看来，从苏珊·桑塔格写Notes On Camp、《爱情作为比喻》、《旁观他人之痛苦》、罗兰·巴特写《恋人絮语》到福柯的许多书写，其中都有着犹太人、同性恋、癌症病患等等被压逼者的情绪。文字是冷静的，动机背后却少不掉历史造成的梦魇。我因此认定文化人与论述对象的关系是 “镜像效应” ，他们看见的他者原来是自己。
唯有自省能力不足的文化人，才会相信他的论述能造到“不偏不倚” 。他们会把“旁征博引，融会贯通”视作“客观” ，从而忽略自己才应是被研究的主题。虽然“没有自己”也会引致精神状况出现，但由于大多数人都会把自己隐藏在安全的“群众”里，于是，出于害怕不能面对“没有自己”而做出的反客为主，便被用来攻讦、打击不畏暴露自己的“一小撮人” 。这解释了为何我们的文化人中没有几个能像桑塔格、巴特、福柯般在思维上“石破天惊” ，反之，上述名字的论点却经常被张贴、挪用在我们的文化评论中。
我们缺乏有能力创造文化理论的“文化明星” ，但不愁没有消费这些理论的“文化明星的 wannabe（s） ” 。主要原因，是更多文化人致力经营对自己的“想象” ，真正敢去解构——或面对现代人痛苦的却少之又少。又或， “痛苦”会被美化成提高身份地位的金缕玉衣。我们的文化评论每多是一种“逃避” ，它把应该用来检视自己为何会有不安、恐惧、焦虑的机会，转化成对事物的“评论”——因为不能或不愿意看清楚自己而把别人问题放大，引致视角出现偏差。
文化人能有几诚实地面对自己？答案就在他们如何呈现、论述自己的欲望——也就是对自己的想象——之中。由于这是个“没有成名等于不存在”的时代，身在这样的“文化”中，如果说文化人不受影响，就像是说他有自备的空气和水而不受污染。故此，我认为文化评论背后的潜主题、潜台词比它所论述的对象更重要——没有对作者的了解，他的观点可以是任何人的观点。文化人如果不能示范他是怎样挣脱集体思维的束缚，他不过是在一个笼子里述说着身处的天地多么广阔。Wannabe（s）的最大特征，是他们如果没有看得见的楷模，便不会想到要成为哪一个“人” 。楷模的意义，是能享受到现成的果实。以此推论，Wannabe（s）的 Want 并不是开放性的“想要” ，而是追求拥有让他羡慕的东西。长期把眼睛长在他人身上而忽略自我观照，这样的文化人只能是被动的、保守的。
文化评论不可能不从自恋开始，但自恋不代表愿意暴露自己，因为前者可以通过自我想象的建构来满足权力欲，但后者却会把自己放在不利的位置。如果文化评论不是为了自我澄清而是追求得到更多权力而写，它当然会成为令社会腐败和虚伪的帮凶。
新一代的文化人肯定不乏自恋文化的培育，但愿自恋在他们身上能够变成面对自己的力量，由不怕承认和批评自己的欲望开始。
