如不可能，次焉者虽徘徊于入世与出世的歧途之上，时而入世，时而出世，此一件事入世，彼一件事出世，而却不但没有矛盾抵牾之苦，反有因缘际会之乐，这也不失为获得幸福之一道。
再次焉者，则徘徊于入世与出世的歧途之上，想要入世，而偏怀着出世的高超的向往；想要出世，而偏怀着入世的深厚的感情，这已经无异于自讨苦吃了。
而更次焉者，则怀着出世的向往，又深知此一境界之终不可得；抱有入世的深情，而又对此芸芸碌碌之人生深怀厌倦，不但自哀，更复哀人，这一种人该是最不幸的一种人了。

《迦陵著作集：迦陵论诗丛稿（第二版）》从诗歌触引人生感发的本质出发，对中国古典诗歌中的重要作品如《诗经》《古诗十九首》和重要作家如陶渊明、谢灵运、柳宗元、李商隐作了“传记的”“史观的”“现代的”深入探讨。其知人论世、以意逆志、纵观古今、融贯中西的论诗方法及从主观到客观、从感性到知性、从欣赏到理论、从为己到为人的研读态度都可作为读者之借镜。

Author Description

叶嘉莹，号迦陵。蒙古裔满族人，出身叶赫那拉氏。1924年出生于北京，毕业于辅仁大学国文系。1950年代任台湾大学教授，并在淡江与辅仁两大学任兼职教授。1960年代应邀担任美国哈佛大学、密歇根州立大学客座教授。后定居加拿大，任加拿大不列颠哥伦比亚大学终身教授，并曾于1980年代至1990年代再度赴美，在耶鲁大学、印地安那大学讲学，1991年当选为加拿大皇家学会院士。自1970年代末返大陆讲学，先后任南开大学、四川大学、北京师范大学等校客座教授，1996年在南开大学创办中华古典文化研究所，设立“驼庵”奖学金。2008年，荣获中华诗词学会颁发的首届“中华诗词终身成就奖”。2012年6月获聘中央文史馆馆员，2013年荣获由中央电视台、文化部、国务院新闻办公室、国务院侨务办公室、中国人民对外友好协会、孔子学院总部/国家汉办共同主办的“中华之光”传播中华文化年度人物奖。

《迦陵著作集：迦陵论诗丛稿（第二版）》：
从表面上看来，在这三种诗歌的表达方式中，“比”和“兴”两种作法，似乎都明白地显示了“情意”与“形象”或“心”与“物”之间，有着由此及彼的某种密切关系，而与“赋”之直接陈述者显然有所不同，这种区别是比较明白可见的；至于“比”和“兴”二者，则既然都有着“心”与“物”之间由此及彼的某种关系，而其所用以“比”或“兴”的“物”之形象，在表现效果中又都具有相当重要的作用，因此这两种的区别就不像其与“赋”之不同那么易于区分了。所以前人对于“比”“兴”二者之为义，就曾滋生了许多使人混淆困惑的说法，这主要是因为前人欲以政教风化之说来解释被尊称为《诗经》的这本诗歌总集里面的作品，所以不免就牵涉上了许多美刺之意。如果我们不作过多的牵涉，而单纯只就诗歌之艺术表现手法而言，那么也许我们可以为“比”“兴”二者在表现手法方面的差别，提出一些根本的歧异之点来。首先就“心”与“物”之间相互作用之孰先孰后的差别而言，一般说来，“兴”的作用大多是“物”的触引在先，而“心”的情意之感发在后；而“比”的作用，则大多是已有“心”的情意在先，而借比为“物”来表达则在后。这是“比”与“兴”的第一点不同之处。其次再就其相互间感发作用之性质而言，则“兴”的感发大多由于感性的直觉的触引，而不必有理性的思索安排，而“比”的感发则大多含有理性的思索安排。前者的感发多是自然的、无意的，后者的感发则多是人为的、有意的，这是“比”和“兴”的第二点不同之处。所以在理论上说来，“兴”与“比”之不同，原来也该是可以明白区分的。即如《诗经》中《周南·关雎》与《魏风·硕鼠》两篇，前者由“关关雎鸠，在河之洲”的水边沙洲上雎鸠鸟的“关关”的叫声，而引发出“窈窕淑女，君子好逑”的情意，这种感发，就“心”与“物”之间相互作用之先后而言，自然应该是听到雎鸠鸟的叫声在先，而引发起君子想求得淑女为偶的情意在后，而且这种情意之感发，也应该完全是由于来自外物的直接的感受而引起的。如此则雎鸠鸟之和鸣相应，纵然也许与假想中之夫妇唱随和乐的生活有相似之处，然而此诗中感发之层次既是由物及心，物在先，心在后，而且感发之性质也是以感性的直接感受为主，而并非出于理性的思索安排，因此我们对于《关雎》这首诗，便一定要将之归入于“兴”的作品，而不得归入于“比”的作品。至于《硕鼠》一诗，从开端两句“硕鼠硕鼠，无食我黍”看来，虽然似乎也是由外物肥大的老鼠的形象写起，可是从下文的“三岁贯女，莫我肯顾。逝将去女，适彼乐土。乐土乐土，爰得我所”的叙述来看，则其全诗所写的原来乃是对于剥削者的怨刺。这种情意是明显可见的，而其开端所写的“硕鼠”的形象，则正是诗人对于剥削重敛者的拟比。也就是说当诗人写出“硕鼠”的形象时，他心中早已有了要将之比拟为剥削重敛者的这种情意。所以就感发之层次而言，这首诗可以说是由心及物，心中之情意在先，物之拟比在后，而且其感发之性质乃是有着理性之安排思索的，是人为的，有意的。所以尽管此诗也是从“硕鼠”之外物的形象开端，我们却决然要将之归入于“比”的作品，而不得归人于“兴”的作品。
