而白驹过隙之间，作家仿佛是一位醒客的执笔者。举世并非浑浊，而只是太过绚丽，忽而又太过苍茫。对于历史的观点，也许每个人的感情也是骤变的：《情人眼》中，是一个凄婉却规避不了龌龊外表的故事——沦落的贵族，奴性，等级的残存，流亡之中所要面对的冷眼，卑微的生存，这一切遮掩在历史表面的东西，都一一被作者的笔锋穿透。结尾，我们看到裸露在众人眼前的一幅背景图，单一纯粹的悲怆基调，原来一直就在文字的背后。
“情人眼”，不仅仅是“爱人之眼”，也是看待整个人世的“有情之心”。因此有注目人潮，想象重逢的深切悲喜，也有目睹一棵树被无情地砍伐、一只狐狸被惨然碾压后的迷乱冰冷，以及捕鸟和“娘娘与太监”故事中对人性的省思及对世事的洞察同情。从“无情”中觉出“有情”，这是本书的真谛所在。

Author Description

王鼎钧，山东省兰陵人，1925年出生于一个传统的耕读之家；1949年到台湾，服务于（台湾）中国广播公司，还曾担任过多家报社副刊主编；1979年应聘至美国的大学任教，之后定居纽约至今。
王鼎钧的创作生涯长达半个多世纪，著作近四十种。从六十年代早期的作品到1975年《开放的人生》，再到八十年代初期《作文七巧》，其“人生四书”、“作文四书”等作品在台湾销行极广，至今不衰。
自七十年代末期起，王鼎钧开始了《碎琉璃》等独树一帜的文学创作；1988年《左心房漩涡》出版之后，更被誉为“当之无愧的散文大师”。
从1992至2009年，王鼎钧历时十七年陆续发表“回忆录四部曲”。这四卷书融人生经历、审美观照与深刻哲思于一体，显示一代中国人的因果纠结、生死流转。

《情人眼》：
我喜欢看地图。我可以从图里找到你。图上一片均匀鲜明的苹果绿，恰像我们坐过的草地。我不看棋子一般的黑点，只看棋盘上的空隙，因为你在那空隙里。
告诉你，地图这件东西要多神秘就有多神秘，它可以把你的故乡你的国家排在平面上，缩进你的口袋里，让你带着千里万里奔走，再大的城市也不过是一个黑点，一个像蚕子一样的圆点就掩没几十万人，遮住多少高楼大厦。像你住的小镇，还不够聚成图上的一个点呢！镇太小了，那个被称为地理学家的魔术师，只好把你丢弃在一片绿茫茫里。那里本是你一向喜欢的草地，我不放心的是，春草可年年仍绿？春风可年年仍柔？啊，绿啊绿，绿得我想卧下去吃草，想长眠在根下土中不再起身，在昏黑潮湿中等着听你踩下来的脚印。每逢我这样想的时候，地图上那些碍眼的点，碍手碍脚的线，一律忙不迭地向后退，向后退，退出我的视界，绿色的平面随着放大，放大，放大，接地连天，再没有别的影子。我能看清地上每一片叶，叶上每一颗露，露里每一个你。绿将我包围，将我覆盖，将我深埋于万丈之下，你在万丈之外缓缓行来，我能感觉到你的压力，知道你踩弯了什么草，踢碎了什么花。我知道你的裤管离脚面几寸，知道你会在我头顶站住。

听说某大学的图书馆里锁着一部地图，不轻易打开。我偏偏想看，想得要命。告诉你，我终于看到了！我只看到跟我们共同有关的那一部分，当然，已经够了。这部地图真详细，你住的小镇，我住的小镇，赫然画在上面，而且有一粒仁丹那么大！像我们年轻时畅销的红粒仁丹！镇外的小丘、小河，也画得清清楚楚。小河在镇外流过的时候不是转了个弯吗？我们不是常常在水弯里走来走去吗？连那个水弯都画出来了。当时，我简直以为我已经死了，我的灵魂回去了。
那条小河现在怎么样了？想到它，我觉得渴，渴得要命，想拼命喝水，而且只想喝那条小河里的水。
我们是喝它长大的。它是云的镜子，鸟的镜子，我们的镜子。当我们懂得为人生哭泣时，我们的眼泪大部分是落在河里。我们能看得见自己哭泣的模样，看得见泪珠在跌入河水之前最后的闪光，看见水面的淡妆被泪击碎时那一阵美丽的扰乱。哭泣之后的渴是真正的渴，于是我们掬水而饮，饮自己的泪，也饮对方的泪。
对着地图，对着河，我渴，我的泪潸潸而下。渴中流泪是真正的悲酸。在大学图书馆幽暗的一角，我哭到打铃下班。愈哭愈渴，不能相信自己体内有那么多的水，一定是血变成了水再流出来。上帝恕我，我一时粗心，淹了那本珍贵非凡的地图。管理员跑来斥责我，像呵斥一个小孩子。他们宣判，我永远不能再到这里来看书，这是很严重的处罚，不过，没有关系，我完全不想再看别的书，我已看到自己的梦，自己的魂。告诉你，一点关系也没有。
