Author Description

江波户哲夫，1946年生于东京，毕业于东京大学经济学院。曾在三井银行就职，退休后在出版社工作。1983年以作家身份跻身文坛，以政治、经济、工薪阶层为题材进行创作，在小说和纪实文学等领域均享有盛誉。代表作有《小说大藏省》、《集团左迁》、《神的堕落》等。

第一章从录音机起步（1949）
1.神奇的黄色粉末
在工棚般简陋的厂房中，紧密地排列着几台大型机器。厂房和桌子都是木制的，而且布满节眼和裂缝，看起来十分陈旧。所有的桌子上都杂乱地摆放着计量仪器、电烙铁焊锡、零件、弯的或直的导线、台灯等等。桌前有一位男子正专心致志地做着手中的工作。
另一个年轻人，胳膊交叉抱在胸前，坐在长桌的一角。
这个人体格魁梧，头发一丝不乱，宽额头，眼睛细长，身上散发着大陆般广阔的气息。此时，他似乎忘记了周围的一切，痴痴地思索着。
年轻人的名字叫木原信敏。一年前的1947年，他从早稻田大学毕业，4月作为第一位新员工进入“东京通信工业”。木原为接受应聘考试第一次来到这里时，怎么也找不到厂址。向过路人打听，几经周折才终于找到这里。工厂比他想象得既小又简陋，他对这个“马厩似的工厂”感到吃惊。然而，木原竟然成为这个“马厩” 的居民。从进入公司的那一天起，他就一直在拼命工作。
现在，木原面前放有一本书，书名叫《磁石》，作者是KS磁石钢的发明者、著名的本多光太郎。
“怎么办？”
木原思忖着，回头看了看被称作“董事包厢”的小屋。在工厂的一角，用挡板隔开做成的董事包厢里，摆放着专务董事井深大和常务董事盛田昭夫的办公桌。平时，两人很少同时在房间。他们经常去工厂看工人们的操作，和大家攀谈，可是今天他们却一直闷在包厢里。
《磁石》里面写着用草酸亚铁制作磁石棒的方法。负责开发录音机的木原为了制作磁带，想尝试一下这种方法。经过多次实验失败，木原感到这是最后一个办法。
战争刚刚结束四年，日本的所有物资都十分匮乏。哪里能搞到草酸亚铁呢？即使能买到，恐怕价钱也非常昂贵。公司的资金周转总是比较困难，能买得起吗？
木原双臂抱在胸前，又向董事包厢望了一眼。正在这时，门开了，盛田走了出来。
