意大利式的生死观
我特别喜欢意大利，甚至将《JOJO的奇妙冒险》第五部的舞台也定在这里。在弗尔兹以前，这片神奇的土地就曾经诞生过《阴风阵阵》（1977）的导演达里奥·阿基多这样的恐怖大师。意大利令人醉心的文化，不仅仅在恐怖电影里。他们那与生俱来的“看生也看死”的从容目光在生活中随处可见。在罗马，有着两千多年历史、被称作世界上最古老的高速公路——“阿比亚”公路的下面，居然是一片地下墓地。意大利人的这种生死观，紧紧连着恐怖电影的传统。僵尸电影，其实是通过僵尸来刻画死亡，通过死亡来表现生命。《生人回避》中的血腥画面也是这种观念的一种体现。
这部展现“血腥屠杀”的杰作中，有大量表现尸体被肢解的场面，其实这在意大利古代美术中很常见：如描写神职人员殉教的宗教绘画、表现处理黑死病尸体场面的版画，以及在“人终有一死”的思想下诞生的大量表现死亡的艺术作品。其实这种对残忍的表现，不仅限于意大利，而是作为一种美术传统，被各国传承至今。现代恐怖电影也正是这一传统的后裔。恐怖电影中那些看似残酷血腥的肢解人体的场景，既可以说是一种美术表现手法，也可以说是一种思想，一种有关生死的哲学。
看着这些令人不忍直视的恐怖画面，对于以画画为生的我来说，却也不失为一种享受。并不是因为镜头里残忍的场面，而是那种极致的人体变形似乎从侧面表现了生命的极限。就像文艺复兴时期的风格主义一样，在把人的身体以想象不到的形式扭曲变形的过程中，似乎可以隐隐感受到创作者那种挑战生死界限的狂热。
而且画画的人总是有种冲动：想画些别人不曾画过的东西。银幕上美丽的脸庞被恐怖扭曲，银幕外的我们一边想着“这么漂亮的脸竟然能变成那样”，一边感叹导演毫不留情的表现手法。而对未知的渴望，既是画画的人的心理，也是一般人的心理。无论是导演，还是画家，大家都想去表现不曾被表现过的东西，都想到达不曾有人涉足的领域。而《生人回避》就是这样一部满载着导演的尝试与突破的电影。
卢西奥·弗尔兹非常喜欢使用“眼睛”来表现恐怖，这一点在《生人回避》刺穿眼球这一经典画面中就可以感受到。看着树枝刺穿眼球，患有尖端恐惧症的人肯定受不了。此外，他的电影中还常常出现女性瞪大双眼的镜头。这种用人体最敏感脆弱的地方来烘托恐怖情绪的手法，可以说既体现了意大利人的生死观，也体现了他们的美术传统。

《珍爱》也是恐怖电影？！
大家知道2009年出品的美国电影《珍爱》吗？影片特别震撼，导演的本意是制作一部感人的电影。不过，我却认为《珍爱》其实是一部恐怖电影，尽管影片中既没有出现杀人狂，也没有出现怪兽。电影描写的是生活在纽约哈莱姆区的十六岁黑人少女不得不面对的残酷人生中的种种不幸：大量的垃圾食品使她身体肥胖；母亲无休无止的虐待；多次被养父强暴，导致两次怀孕；第二次怀孕被学校发现，被勒令退学……对这个女孩儿来说，残酷的现实似乎永无尽头。《珍爱》不只揭露了冷酷的社会现实，更有一种让人从心底不寒而栗的力量。
我甚至觉得这部电影就是为了让人感到恐惧而拍摄的。无论是控诉将少女逼入绝境的社会，还是美国黑人长久以来背负的悲惨历史，都让我们不得不聚焦于主人公所生活的那个让人无时无刻不感到恐惧的人间地狱。因此，在我看来，《珍爱》无疑是一部恐怖电影。当观众蜷缩在电影院松软的大沙发里欣赏电影的时候，有人或许会想着“必须要好好改造这个社会”——这种想法当然可以有；也有人会将电影中的恐怖遭遇对象化，看着大屏幕里的主人公们如何直面他们惨淡的人生，然后安慰自己：这一切终究只是个故事。
对我来说，那些单纯表现恐惧的电影，那些为了让人感受到恐惧而将无药可救的现实摆到观众眼前的电影，都应该是恐怖电影。尽管恐惧是虚构的，却逼着你审视生活，能够做到这一点的似乎只有恐怖电影了吧。
因此，《珍爱》只要能让观众感到恐惧就足够了。若想要揭露社会阴暗面，不达到一定效果的揭露不能算成功，况且影片是否有趣，观众也有按自己的想法来评判的权利。不过用到“权利”，或许是有点儿夸张了。如果有人告诉你：“《珍爱》是部社会电影，请这样看！”你也许会回击说：“呸，谁在乎！”这样看来，《珍爱》这部电影，对观众们来说完全是部恐怖电影，而且是部制作精良的恐怖电影。
看到这里，一定有人觉得我在胡说八道。对于这样的朋友，我就不劝您看这本书了。而其他朋友们，在这本书里，我将向您推荐一些个人较为偏爱的恐怖电影，并同您分享“荒木派”恐怖电影的观赏指南。当然，请恐怖电影迷们放心，在电影内容方面，本书还是以传统“恐怖电影”为中心的。如果您不是恐怖电影迷，也很有可能通过这本书爱上恐怖电影。之所以这样说，是因为观众明知道自己观看的内容是假的，却依然能被吓得目不转睛，所有电影中没有比恐怖电影更有趣的了。
以1970年以后的作品为主
我被恐怖电影所俘获的最初契机是1973年美国出品的电影《驱魔人》。当时我还在上中学，是在电影院看的这部片子。从那以后，我就一头栽进对恐怖电影的热爱中，电影院公映的恐怖电影几乎一部不落。当然，这些电影鱼龙混杂，不能说都是杰作，有一些甚至是B级片。可尽管如此，也几乎没有让我觉得“后悔一看”的片子，当时的我真是彻底沉浸于恐怖电影的独特乐趣中了。而在这本可以算是我这个恐怖电影迷自言自语的书里，我将为大家介绍我所看过的1970年以后的恐怖电影。
在《驱魔人》之前，恐怖电影还被叫作“怪奇电影”，那时也曾出现过“吸血鬼”“狼人”“弗兰肯斯坦”等怪物，在这本书里，我就不花笔墨介绍了。并不是因为以上类型皆古典，背离了我的“新恐怖电影”的主题。主要是上述影片我基本上都是借助录像带、影碟等或是在“怀旧经典电影”特别展映时看到的，属于追忆过去。而在这本书里，我将挑选我在电影公映期间欣赏到的“新鲜”作品，即以《驱魔人》以后的“新恐怖电影”为中心，为大家重点介绍，还希望大家能多多理解。
恐怖！恐怖！
那么，就！让！我！们！……请稍等！在进入新恐怖电影世界之前，我要向大家说明一下我所认同的恐怖电影的定义是什么。前面也多少提到了，在我看来，恐怖电影就是以恐怖为目的的电影。或许您要说，这不是理所当然的嘛！让我来举个例子说明一下，比如那些苦求人生方向、讲述生命哲理的电影，或是煽人飙泪的感人大片，无论其中有多么恐怖的桥段，都不能算是恐怖电影。想成为恐怖电影的最低条件是：一心一意，只为吓唬人。当然，如果在享受惊悚刺激之余又深入挖掘到了人性本质的话，那无疑算是恐怖电影界的旷世杰作了。也就是说，比起那些“利用恐怖电影讲述老百姓自己的故事”的影片，恐怖电影，首先应该是“令人感到恐惧”的，电影中的“社会问题”“人性冲突”等，只是作为惊悚要素而出现，这才是荒木认证的恐怖电影。
因此，像《珍爱》这类似乎有些表里不一的作品，也应该是恐怖电影的一种。即便影片宣传时被叫作“苦难史诗”？“感人巨作”，也完全抹杀不了其恐怖电影的本色。同样，罗伯特·德尼罗主演的《恐怖角》（1991）也完全称得上是恐怖电影，片中出狱后仍纠缠律师一家的囚犯的偏执，让人只能感到恐惧，没有其他。而如今已被奉为神作的史蒂文·斯皮尔伯格的《大白鲨》中所展现的人性冲突，尽管动人，但也只能算是为这部恐怖经典锦上添花了。
另外，虽然战争电影中恐怖桥段很多，但大都是为了控诉战争罪恶、揭露社会问题，而并不是在追求恐惧本身，即战争电影里的恐怖桥段只是渲染战争悲惨的一种手段。因此，再恐怖的战争电影也不能被算作真正意义上的恐怖电影。战争电影与恐怖电影还是两码事。
最后，与其说是给恐怖电影下个定义，倒不如说是我对恐怖电影的期望。希望恐怖电影无论如何都要以追求恐怖感为己任，因为只有这样，才能称得上是真正的恐怖电影。
让可爱的孩子们也看恐怖电影吧
人，总是喜欢可爱的、美好的、散发着亮晶晶的幸福光圈儿的东西。可渐渐成长，我们知道了，并不是一切都那么美好，相反，那些并不怎么美好的人和事似乎更多一些。在我们生活的世界上，有丑陋、有肮脏。同为人，也有些专干坏事的可恶家伙。有人嫉妒，有人虐待，有人被嫉妒，有人被虐待，严苛冷酷的人际关系有时仿佛要把人淹没；以为自己是最好的，却无力地发现总有人比自己更优秀；前一秒还在幸福的云端，后一秒却跌落谷底；没来由地被人暴力相向；理想和现实好像总是隔着那么远……
这一切，所有人都会经历。世界上有太多年轻的少男少女们无法想象的残酷，而只有经历了，人才能在痛苦中成长。现实世界并不只有美好，无论是谁，总有一天都要面对这个事实。这么说可能有些极端，可即便是被陨石砸死这种荒诞的小概率事件，也是有可能发生的。因此，能坦然面对不幸才是生存之道。可是对于那些被父母、学校保护起来的少男少女来说，除非亲身体验，总是很难感受到丑恶与肮脏的存在。而若有一天真的要面对自己想象不到的不幸时，那种不安，才是最可怕的。
我的前言或许太长了。不过我想说的是，将社会上的丑陋和肮脏以夸张的形式展示出来，而使观众能坐在一个相对安全的位置上来观看其过程，这也是恐怖电影的功效之一吧。当然，描写暴力、不治之症、家庭破裂的电影有很多，但能够轻而易举地将人类的终极恐怖——死亡表现出来的，应该就只有恐怖电影了吧。因此，观看恐怖电影是一场让少男少女们直面人生中的假恶丑、直面社会阴暗面的绝佳演习。还有比恐怖电影更好的素材吗？绝对没有！而且不仅限于孩子，这种“演习”对大人来说也很有必要。
如果能够将恐怖电影的恐怖感相对化，那么在享受这份虚构的恐怖的同时，我们的感情也会得到净化，而这正是欣赏其他电影时所没有的，是恐怖电影带给我们的独特的好处吧。而且，比起那种“让我们一起努力战胜不幸”式的满腔热血的呐喊，恐怖电影仿佛轻拍我们的肩头，潇洒地说：“该死就去死吧！”这反而让人觉得轻松了许多。
有娱乐，又有夸张，恐怖电影描写的是另一种真实，那些并不美好的真实。所以，好的恐怖电影是最能表现现实与人性黑暗面的艺术了。
完全不看？也太极端了吧！
前面介绍了恐怖电影的各种好处，但“绝对不看恐怖电影”的肯定也大有人在。人们对于恐怖电影的态度大概可以分为以下四种类型。
第一类人：觉得恐怖电影阴暗肮脏，看了影响心情，消磨精神，损失正能量，因此，绝对不看。
第二类人：就跟进鬼屋一样，看恐怖电影完全是出于好奇。
第三类人：喜欢将恐怖电影分门别类，斟酌作品情节、导演意图，研究摄影技巧、电影构思。并喜欢对这些进行分析解说，乐此不疲。
第四类人：纯粹喜欢血腥暴力的杀戮场面，以享受恐怖为乐的怪咖。
在这四类人中，第四类人属于极品，看似有些危险。不过第一类人也是相当极端的。当然不排除第一类人里有一些生理上无法接受血腥暴力的人。可是，即便是这样的人，也不应该将恐怖电影一棒子打死，至少应该稍微看一点儿。另外，只是觉得“不是好电影就不看”的话，很容易犯下“还不知内容就断然否定恐怖电影”的经验主义错误。就像我在前面已经反复提到的，恐怖电影是能把现实中的恐怖相对化的。因此，希望第一类人也能适当地了解恐怖电影，并且希望第一类人和第四类人能逐渐转化为第二类人或第三类人。
当然，恐怖电影也是有好有坏。同所有其他类型电影一样，既有不太值得浪费脑细胞的爆米花电影，也有称得上是精品的艺术之作。各类恐怖电影，就像它们所表现的这个世界一样，广博多样。所以，请千万不要将恐怖电影一概而论。
最后，让我们一起温习一下：通过制造恐怖，来解放人们对现实世界的种种不安的电影就是恐怖电影。若能在这本书里稍微展现出恐怖电影的魅力，我就心满意足了。并期待这本书能成为您理解“恐怖”以及“恐怖电影”的一个机会。
