1 在新墨西哥州北部有一个名叫硌伦泡的牧场。那是一片水草茂盛，牛羊成群的土地，因流经此地的硌伦泡河而得名。这里最为人所熟知的是一头大灰狼。

一次，一个牛仔在一个山谷里听见了狼王老暴的嗥叫声，他顺着声音在一片草地上发现了他与他所率领的狼群。狼群正在围攻一群小牛，老暴则独自坐立在一旁的小土墩上观察着局势。布兰卡和其他的狼看中了一头小母牛，但牛群紧紧地聚在一起，头朝外，牛角冲着敌人。狼群的攻击在牛儿们的齐心协力下未取得丝毫进展。当狼群再次发起进攻时，几头胆小的母牛恐惧地使劲往里钻，打乱了牛群的阵形。这时候狼王老暴已经对自己的手下失去了耐心，在他的眼中这是绝好的机会。他的手下完全可以利用这个机会，把他们挑中的母牛咬伤，使之脱离牛群的保护。狼王从小土墩上立起身子，咆哮着冲向牛群。在他的攻击下，本来井然有序的牛群陷入了一片混乱。随着他跃人牛群之中，牛儿们心中最后一丝勇气也随之消散，他们四散逃开。那头被选中的小母牛只来得及跑上二十五码，便被狼王老暴一口咬住了脖子，狠狠地摔在了地上。
