资本收入与劳动收入之间、高薪与低薪之间差异的演进在今天已经得到了许多资料的印证。而在这一过程背后，则掩盖着一个三极（而非两极）阶级结构：即资本家阶级、管理者阶级和大众阶级。20世纪陆续出现的那些不同的政治联盟正是在这一结构的基础上完成的。资本家与管理者之间在社会层面，尤其是政治层面的联盟体现的是典型的新自由主义之路，它是右派的标志。而左派意义上的大众与管理者之间的联盟则出现在了二次世界大战之后的西方世界。
历经多年的研究，本书通过大量详实的资料捍卫了一个简单的结论，其中心思想是：社会进步之路的重启取决于动摇资本主义所有制下的庞大金融网络，动摇资产所有者与高层管理者之间默契的能力。只有在这一前提条件下，才能推动左派意义上大众阶级与管理者阶级之间的新型妥协方案，开启对于资本主义的渐进式超越之路。

Author Description

《大分化：正在走向终结的新自由主义/国际文化版图研究文库》：
管理资本主义本身诞生于美国的一次结构性危机。19世纪末出现了一次由资本收益下降，即企业利润率下跌所导致的“大萧条”（它的影响直到1929年才被一次更大的萧条而取代）。它被解读为一次竞争危机，因为企业们认为问题出在了过度竞争之上。事实上，它们自身规模的扩大伴随着大小企业之间差异性的增加；这给小企业带来了很大的压力。此外，沟通网络的扩张使得企业之间的正面对抗空间增大。为了应对这一现象，大企业纷纷以托拉斯和卡特尔的形式结盟以确保分享市场和利润。
正是在这一背景下出现了三重革命：股份公司革命、金融机构革命和管理革命。这些革命，尤其是管理革命带来的种种影响必须得到强调。其中一个主要影响如下：在不要求运用成本很高的生产技术的前提下（即不提高投入产出比），加速产能的提升。实现这一点，通过的是一次大规模的技术组织方面的变革。后者呈现为两种形式：泰勒制和福特制（技术方面，即流水线生产）。这些变革将逐步影响经济的各个方面和领域，直至超级市场，从而阻止了数十年来企业利润率的下跌，并且不需要由员工来承担经济重振的重负。
