本书系首都经济贸易大学出版社出版的“诺贝尔经济学奖获奖者学术精品自选集”丛书中的一种，是诺贝尔经济学奖获得者弗农·史密斯对其有关实验经济学的代表性论文的自选集。弗农·史密斯（Vernon L.Smith，1921～）是美国乔治·梅森大学的经济学教授，2002年因“创立了实验室实验，并将其作为一种工具应用于经济学经验分析中，尤其是在各类市场机制的实验研究中获得了突出成就”，荣获诺贝尔经济学奖。本书中文版系由全国实验经济学与博弈论研究会副理事长，南开大学泽尔滕实验室常务副主任、南开大学亚太公司治理研究中心常务副主任李建标教授等根据剑桥大学出版社1991年英文版译出，分上、下两册出版。

第一部分实验经济学的形成
导论
1959至1963年，实验经济学的论文和著作开始大量涌现，主要的代表人物有：Hoggatt（1959），Sauermannt和Sehen（1959，1960），Siegel和Fouraker（1960），Fouraker，Shubik和Siegel（1961），Smith（1962），ouraker和Siegel（1963），Suppes和Carl.smith（1962），还有Friedman（1963）。我们中的大多数人并不知道别人也在几乎同一时间进行着类似的研究。E.H.Chamberlin对非正式交易市场开创性的研究直接影响了我在1956～1960年间做的第一个实验，他的研究构成了我这本论文集第一部分九篇论文公开的背景。
