这是一位很有智慧的老师。他对他的资深学生很了解，那位自己准备成为灵性导师的丈夫，毫无疑问有一些很深的灵性觉悟。但他身上同时也表现出觉醒所带来的一个危险——一个人有可能开始逃避现实生活以及关系中的挑战。在关系中，你必须愿意不躲在超然状态中。你必须在某种程度上脱离超然状态，与人们和事情打交道。
这个学生曾经躲在自己的觉悟中。他开始不去处理那些令人不快或困难的事情。他正在把自己的觉悟当成让自己免于处理这些事情的借口。他的老师及时发现了这一点，很有智慧地把他放在一个特定的情景中，迫使他处理自己的状况以及与妻子的关系。他就不能只躲在超然状态中了。

在关系中，我们到底在跟对方身上的什么东西相处r与对方相处时，我们到底基于什么样的出发点？与对方相处时，我们的出发点是不是看到对方就是我们自己，看到他们也具有和我们一模一样的自性？我们的一言一行是不是基于那个出发点？我们是不是愿意面对心中浮现的恐惧？正如我已经说过的那样，大多数人都害怕改变。我们害怕，如果我们走出隐藏，如果我们走出否认，就有可能失去爱人、朋友或伴侣。真相是，有可能。我们永远都不知道结果会怎样。
我经常告诉人们，开悟并不能保证从此以后你的生活就一定会如你所愿。生活会比以前好很多，但这并不意味着它会朝着你想要的方向发展。说到底，开悟是指真相，是指在所有的方面、在我们存在的所有层面上保持诚实。
开悟并不是一种逃避或超越。它是一种我们如实地面对自己的生活和关系的状态。生活本身就是关系。从终极的角度来看，它是一体自性与一体自性的关系、灵性与灵性的关系。
