一先秦时期的家庭教育
1家庭和家教
说起家庭，这是人们普遍使用和容易理解的名词。一般说来，我们中国人习惯把以婚姻和血缘关系（包括血缘关系补充形式的收养关系）为纽带的、具有一定社会功能的生活共同体看作家庭。自古以来，人们认为“有夫有妇然后有家”，认识到没有婚姻关系时，“聚生群处，知母不知父，无亲戚、兄弟、夫妻、男女之别，无上下长幼之道”（《吕氏春秋·恃君览》），就无从组织家庭。这就是说，家庭是建立在婚姻关系基础之上的，并且基于这一关系发展的思想、文化、心理、情感、人伦关系也是组成家庭的重要因素。尽管婚姻关系是最基本的，后者是由前者派生的，但这两种因素缺一不可，相辅相成，彼此互相促进，以致古代家庭得以维持和家庭人伦文化关系得到进步与发展。
家庭是人类社会私有制的产物和标志。经济关系在家庭中十分重要，如果没有共同的财产关系、供养关系，夫妇关系和血缘伦理关系也就无法维持；没有共同的生产和消费关系，也难以有共同的家庭生活。每一个家庭，从组织形式上讲都是社会的细胞，它不可能孤立存在，每一个家庭的成员作为社会的一分子，必然要与其他社会成员建立各种社会联系，由此构成了一张复杂的人际关系网。这就是说，家庭关系不单包括家庭内部的婚姻和血缘关系，思想、人伦、文化、心理和情感关系、经济关系等，而且还包括家庭与社会发生的复杂的人际交往关系。一般说来，人际交往关系在原始形态上更多的是血缘关系的延伸，尤其在我国古代社会，这种延伸的血缘关系在很大程度上保存了原始氏族的遗风，亲戚关系、家族观念在血缘关系中具有不可忽视的意义。
孔子姓孔名丘，字仲尼，鲁国[zou邹]邑（今山东曲阜）人，生于鲁襄公二十二年（公元前551年），卒于鲁哀公十六年（公元前479年）。孔子所处时代，正值奴隶制向封建制的变革初期，宗族家长制走向崩溃。个体家庭制随着士、农、工、商的社会分工的形成而迅速发展。社会家庭结构的变化，导致原来的旧礼乐文化走向衰弱，旧道德体系走向崩溃，出现“礼崩乐坏”的局面。孔子鉴于这种现状，立志于整顿自国至家的政治伦理纲常，重建礼乐文化。他提出“君君、臣臣、父父、子子”的正名思想，主张以教育的手段建立以“孝”为根本、以家庭伦理为基础的“仁礼，，政治道德体系，由此推动整个社会由“天下大坏”走向“天下大治”。
孔子认为，政治的基础是伦理道德秩序的建立。伦理是建立在父母子女之间的血缘关系之上的，因此家庭的伦理道德的教育是对国家政治的保障。他说：“孝乎惟孝，友于兄弟，施于有政，是亦为政。”（《论语·为政》）他十分强调把孝道作为家庭教育的根本内容。
在孔子看来，如果人知孝悌，就不会犯上作乱。因为，“孝’’是“仁”的根本，也是“礼”的根本。
