最后，我想再说一个导致采猎社会和之后社会在育儿方法方面差别巨大的原因。农业给人类带来的不仅是获得食物的新方法，它还引进了一种新的思维方式——看待人与自然的关系。
采猎者认为自己是自然世界的一部分，他们会去适应自然，而不是违逆自然。他们接受自然的变化，认为那是不可避免的，并且尽力去适应它们。相反的，农业社会的人们则不断试图控制自然，包括驯服和控制动物及植物，让它们为人类服务，而不把它们当作自然世界中平等的伙伴。伴随着农业的发展，我认为，人类开始将控制自然这个想法延伸到世界的其他方面，包括儿童在内。
