“大禹治水”的启示
《史记?夏本纪》记载：尧帝在位时期，人民艰难地生活在洪水泛滥之中，于是，尧命大禹之父鲧治水。鲧用堵塞围垫的方法来治水，却忽视疏洪导水，故“九年而水不息，功用不成”，终死于羽山。后来，舜继承了帝位，命大禹承父业治水。大禹吸取先父治水失利而受诛罚的教训，总结经验顺自然规律：修堤筑坝，拦堵洪水；又疏通河道，引水入江，导洪入海，用疏导加拦堵的方法，把洪水治服，百姓得以安居乐业。
大禹治水的故事哲理颇深，其中采用的疏堵方法，至今仍然被人们沿用着，而且还将其发扬光大。鲧治水之所以失利，只缘其只“堵”不“疏”，死挡硬抗；禹治水之所以成功，则由于他能够做到“疏堵”结合，更好地利用自然规律。洪水运动是自然产物，有其自身的规律，如果人们仅凭主观愿望进行“堵塞围垫”，失败是不可避免的；而如果顺其自然，疏通河道、建造堤岸，就能获得成功。治水如此，其实办理任何事情都是这样，大到治国，小到治家，都可以采用这种方法。
大禹治水给父母的启示就是“堵疏结合，标木兼治”，这同时也是教育孩子的最好方法。堵与疏的关系是对立统一的辩证关系，堵是疏的前提和保障，没有堵就谈不上疏，堵不住就疏不开；而疏是堵的目的，疏不开、疏不好也就不可能真正堵死，两者相辅相成、缺一不可。
