《积极心理学走进小学课堂》：
大脑是一个活跃的、会呼吸的、会学习的并适应各种经验的器官，而这种适应是各脑区之间通过神经传递持续交流的产物。当神经细胞彼此之间进行交流时，学习的执行功能的脑区在细胞与模块之间信息传递得更为频繁、流畅。学习的执行功能是神经学领域的术语，它是指进化的更高水平的思维技能，涉及学习中必不可少的心理聚焦、活动以及调节。9前额叶皮层的主要功能是执行功能，包括诸如感知、组织等认知性操作，以及工作记忆。学习的执行功能能够让学生转变视角，调整情绪，抑制或者激发行动，记住学习过的内容，管理需求，优先安排任务以及自我监控。
这里举一个例子来说明在课堂上学习的执行功能是如何发挥作用的。一个教师在15分钟内让学生回答三个历史问题。约翰尼在叹气，他并没有将注意力集中在问题上。相反，他的眼睛盯着时钟等待下课，无法将注意力集中到问题上，他还从口袋里拿出一个蓝色的小玩具车。
