Book Abstract

如卢卡斯、狄纳等人（Lucas，Diener，Crob，Suh&Shao，2000）调查研究证实，在个体主义和集体主义这两种典型的文化模式中自尊（ self-esteem）在集体主义文化模式中对个体生活满意度的影响度要比在个体主义文化模式中小。同样，外向性（ extraversion）这一人格特质也具有同样的特点。人格的一致性和稳定性是衡量人格的一个重要特质性指标，也是人主观幸福感体验产生的一个重要基础。所谓人格的一致性和稳定性，是指一个人的外在行为是否与他内心真实的心理体验相一致，如果二者相匹配，人格就具有一致性和稳定性，反之，人格就不具有一致性和稳定性。有研究（Suh&Diener，2002，pp.63-70）表明，在集体主义文化模型中，个体的人格一致性和稳定性不如在个人主义文化模型中那么明显，也就是说在集体主义文化中个体的自我容易分裂，但这种分裂似乎并没有影响人的主观幸福感。也就是说在集体主义文化模型中，个体人格的一致性和连续性对主观幸福感的影响并不很大（与个体主义文化模式相比较而言），这也许是因为在集体主义文化中人们在获得主观幸福感时会更多地考虑他人的愿望而不仅仅只是考虑自己的生活满意度。在另一项研究中，有研究者（Sue et al.）对40个国家的6780名大学生进行了调查，结果发现，在多数个体主义文化模式的国家（主要是西方资本主义经济发达国家），不管是积极情绪还是消极情绪，都与一个人的生活满意度有着很高的相关性，但在大多数集体主义文化模式的国家里（如中国、日本、尼泊尔和尼日利亚等），其生活满意度与消极情绪之间的相关并不显著。这一结果表明，不同的文化模式对主观幸福感的判定存在差异，个体主义文化模式下的个体倾向于依据自身的内部情绪体验来判断自己是否幸福，而集体主义文化模式中的个体相对较少依赖自身的体验来判断自己是否幸福（郑雪、严标宾、邱林、张兴贵，2004，p.137），更多关注他人对自己行为的看法和评价，他人外在的看法和评价常常决定了自己是否幸福。
中国是典型的集体主义文化模式，中国人特别讲面子，许多中国人活着是为了与他人有和谐的关系，为了让人觉得自己很幸福，而不是考虑自己主观上是否真的幸福。如中国人很讲究送礼人情，要尽量把最好的东西送给别人，而一旦接受别人的人情后，最好的方法是回报他人以更大的人情，所谓“报大于施”。因为如果一个人亏欠了他人的人情债，他就有可能在人际关系中失去平衡，有被他人或社会孤立的危险。尽管我们在把最好的东西送给别人时，自己心里也会产生一定的消极情绪体验，但这关系到一个人的面子是否光彩，所以大多数中国人还是乐此不疲，以致在许多地方，人情送礼成了一笔很大的经济负担。但在一些西方人看来，送礼只是表达一种心意，而不在于礼物本身的贵贱，因此他们大多送一些简单的东西，如鲜花、巧克力等。
个体主义和集体主义是两种特点鲜明且又相对的文化模式，它们导致民众在判断自己是否幸福时的标准有所侧重。在大多数个体主义文化模式中；个体的主观幸福感体验主要是以自我的内部情绪体验为基础，幸福与否全凭自己的感觉。而在集体主义文化模式中．个体的主观幸福感则以“美好生活”的外在社会标准为基础，强调与它的一致性，幸福不幸福由社会标准说了算。卢卡斯、狄纳等人（Lucas，Diener，Crob，Suh&Shao，2000）研究发现，在个体主义文化模型中，未婚同居者比结婚同居者的感觉更幸福，而在集体主义文化中，未婚同居者则不如结婚同居者幸福。事实上，从人类社会的实践来看，“美好生活”的定义应该既要包括个体的内在方面——尊重个人的感受，也要包括个体所在的外在联系方面——服从社会或他人的要求，但现在文化的传统似乎破坏了这二者之间的平衡，好像全世界已不存在一种“美好生活”的通用定义了。因此，从高标准的角度来说，这两种文化模式都应当在自己的发展史上重新进行幸福的修正，相互取长补短。
