在长期的教学过程中，经常有些被众人认为稳操胜券的“尖子生”，却遭遇从未有过的惨败；而有些平时成绩难以望他人项背的考生，却出乎意料获得好成绩。有人把这种“反常现象”归结于“运气好坏”，实际上这两类考生在考试中一败一胜，并非偶然，这取决于他们应试时心理素质和应试技巧。据日本专家研究，决定一个人考试成绩的因素，竞技状态占30%，知识水平占70%。前一类考生，尽管平时成绩优异，但由于大意轻敌，或存在种种心理障碍，患得患失，顾虑重重，竞技状态甚差；后一类考生，尽管平时成绩一般，但“亡羊补牢”，虚心向老师、同学求教，基础由薄弱变扎实，临考时从容镇静，应试时发挥出最佳竞技状态。这说明，考试策略的促成在学生的考试中是相当重要的，它直接关系学生已有知识、能力水平的发挥。
新课程标准要求教师在教学中要有意识地帮助学生形成适合自己的学习策略，并具有不断调整学习策略的能力。让学生掌握一定的学习策略，不仅有利于他们把握学习的方向，采取科学的方法提高学习效率，而且有助于他们形成自主学习的能力，为终身学习奠定基础。然而部分学生在勤奋紧张的学习后，由于心理紧张不能在考试中调控自己的情绪，使考试失败，是教师最为痛心的事，如果一名学生在长期的学习过程中，不能将自己掌握的知识充分地表现出来，那么他的心态就会失衡，如不能得到及时的调试，将会丧失学习的原动力。因此，在教学中加强对学生考试策略的指导促成，也是加强学习策略的重要部分。
