《外国心理学流派大系·心灵的适应：机能心理学》题名为《心灵的适应》，意在指明本书的研究主题和写作范围：限于对实验心理学传人美国之后，由于接受生物进化论的影响而形成的那种以强调生物适应价值为基本特征的机能心理学。这种历史形态的机能心理学曾在19世纪末、20世纪初构成实验心理学在美国发展的主导趋势，并构成美国心理学历史发展的逻辑起点。同时，这种机能心理学作为历史形态所具有的意义，决不仅仅是历史的，因为正是这种机能心理学塑造了美国心理学的内在性格，从而决定了实验心理学在美国从机能心理学到行为主义再到认知心理学的主流发展线索。所以，《外国心理学流派大系·心灵的适应：机能心理学》还将特别地以作为全部美国心理学一般特征和总体倾向的美国心理学的机能主义精神为背景，来研究作为历史形态而存在的早期的机能心理学。关于布伦塔诺的意动心理学作为机能心理学的一种逻辑形态，不在本书研究范围之内，而是意动心理学专门研究的主题。

Author Description

高申春，男，安徽庐江人，1966年9月生，哲学博士，现任吉林大学哲学社会学院教授，博士生导师，兼任中国社会心理学会常务理事、中国心理学会社会心理专业委员会委员、吉林省心理学会副理事长、《心理学探新》编委、《社会心理研究》编委主要研究领域为理论心理学、西方心理学史、社会心理学，目前专攻现象学及现象学心理学，已出版个人专著2部、译著6部、参编教材和著作5部，发表学术论文50余篇。
郭本禹安徽肥西人，1964年生，心理学博士，先后就读于安徽师范大学、南京大学和南京师范大学，1995、2000年分别破格晋升副教授、教授，2000年始担任南京师范大学博士生导师，兼任中国心理学会理事、理论心理学和心理学史专业委员会副主任、人格心理学专业委员会委员、《心理学探新》和《心理研究》编委，主持省部级课题10多项。在《心理学报》、《心理科学》等刊物上发表论文100多篇，有近30篇次论文被《新华文摘》和《人大复印报刊资料》转载出版专著、编著、译著《道德认知发展与道德教育》、《当代心理学的新进展》、《自我效能理论及其应用》、《现代心理学丛书》、《中国精神分析研究丛书》、《研究生教材·心理学系列》、《当代心理学经典教材译丛》等多套大型学术丛书。获得省部级科研、教学奖励10余项，其中一等奖4项。2002年被列入江苏省“333新世纪科学技术带头人培养工程”第二层次培养对象，2007年被列为江苏省“333高层次人才培养工程”首批中青年科技领军人才。

Book Abstract

关于心理学是什么这个问题，詹姆斯在《心理学原理》中，特别在其序言、第一章及第七章中有较为集中、较为系统的论述。在第一章“心理学的范围”中，詹姆斯开篇便指出：“心理学乃是关于心理生活的科学，既包括心理生活的诸现象，又包括这些现象的条件。”①詹姆斯所谓心理生活的“诸现象”，就是在思维中所把握到的诸如感觉、知觉、记忆、认知、判断、想象、欲望、意愿、情感等主观的活动或现象。在进一步说明这些“现象”是什么之前，詹姆斯首先明确地批判并否定了理性主义传统的官能心理学和经验主义传统的联想心理学。詹姆斯所谓心理生活诸现象的“条件”，是指身体的存在及其活动，特别是脑的存在及其活动，并指出：“脑是心理活动的直接的条件这一事实，在现时代是如此普遍地被承认，乃至于我无需作更多的说明，而只是把它作为基本假定承诺下来，并在此基础上继续本书的论证。本书以下全部内容，都将在不同程度上是对这一假定之正确性的证明。”②
结合《心理学原理》一书的全部论证，这里需要特别指出的是，在詹姆斯关于心理学的这个界定中，心理生活的“诸现象”和它们的“条件”是同一的：“没有哪一种心理的变化不伴随着或是导致相应的身体的变化”，所以，“心理学家在某种意义上说必然是神经生理学家”。③隐含在这一界定背后的，是詹姆斯的一个理论的冲动，即试图对世界做出某种一元论的解释而摆脱二元论，并在理论上具体地表现为对意识现象及其活动如何在脑活动的基础上产生出来，亦即前述“事物”如何在“意识”中生成为“现象”这一难题的追问和思考，虽然詹姆斯承认，这个难题是“任何终有一死的凡人所永远无，法知道的”。④詹姆斯关于心理生活的现象和它的条件是同一的这种理解方式，逐渐演化为他在晚年提出的“纯粹经验”概念。
