Author Description

哈夫洛克·埃利斯，1859年2月2日生于英格兰东南部的萨里郡克洛顿城；1939年车于伦敦寓所，终年80岁。霭理士是英国的一位很有影响的科学家、思想家、作家和文学评论家，在哲学、宗教、社会学、人类学、文学、翻译、医学和生物学等学科的范围内，都有很大的贡献。其中较为突出的是，他终生严肃从事人类性科学的研究和教育，认真探讨人类的精神世界和性的生物学的密切关系；他和弗洛伊德一起，是性科学领域里较早而且著名的前驱。欧美各国研究过霭理士的许多著名学者都高度评价他的人品和学问，美国著名评论家孟根甚至称赞他为“当代文明的英国人。”

第一章概论
正常性心理学和变态性心理学，以及性卫生知识近来引起了广泛的兴趣和注意，这在本世纪以前是不可思议的。今天的青年男子对有关性的文献有时可说是了如指掌，而今天的青年女性则常常以不断探求的精神涉猎有关性的领域，全然没有那种谨小慎微、一本正经的态度，在她们祖母的时代，这无疑是十足的邪恶。直到几年前，任何跟性有关的科学行道在所有场合下都被认为是低级趣味，或至少是不健康的；而现在，无论是在人们的私下评论中，还是在公众道德舆论中，性心理和性卫生工作者受到了最、热情的支持。
但是，医学界迄今还很难说对推动这一运动作了什么积极的努力。诚然，这一领域的先驱是医生，近一个世纪以前，最初是德国和奥地利的医生，后来是其他国家的医生。但他们常常遭到同行们的白眼，性心理和性卫生至今还未成为医学教育的一部分。性生理学的境况更糟，直到二十几年前，第一本科学的、全面的性生理手册才姗姗问世(马歇尔编)。
