《病原生物学与免疫学》是中等卫生职业教育各专业的一门重要的专业基础课程。为了适应现在的大学教育这样一种不同于以往的全新的教育形势，为了使新时代条件下的中职医学生能够更好地接受本门课程的相对抽象、深奥的理论知识，我们在卫生部、教育部有关精神的指导下，组织了全国十所高、中职医学院校的十余名专业教师，编写了这本新的《病原生物与免疫学》教材，谨此奉献给全国各中职医学院校使用。
这本教材之所以称之为新教材，是因为它有许多新的编写思路、编写语言、编写内容和编写格式，能给人以焕然一新的感觉。首先，它打破了以往的一些编写思路，没有完全束缚于医学微生物学、医学免疫学、人体寄生虫学三门学科的严格界限，而是遵循由浅人深、由易到难的基本教育规律，在不影响知识的完整性和前后连续性的基础上，循序渐进地安排教学内容。其次，它的编写语言相对活泼、清新，少了许多学究气和刻板生硬的学术面孔，而比较符合、接近于新一代中职医学生的学习爱好和接受心理。再次，它在知识的取舍剪裁上
作了一些新的尝试，大胆地去掉了一部分过于深奥而又为36学时的中职医学教育所不能承受、并且也并非必要的理论内容（或简明扼要地放置于参考阅读或知识趣闻中），而充实以大量的直观性图片、条理性表格，来帮助现在的中职医学生，使他们能较为容易地进人病原生物学与免疫学的科学殿堂中去。最后，它在编写的格式上，也作了新的有益的尝试，它是按照章节名称—内容简介与提示—教学内容（包括正文、知识趣闻、参考阅读）—复习思考题的顺序编写的，显得版面清新、别具一格、简明扼要，既循循善诱、引人思维，又兼顾本学科的完整性。
为了便于现在的中职医学生进行实验，本教材书后附有实验指导。为了帮助学生们自学、课前预习、课后复习和掌握学习进度，每节内容后还附有较多复习思考题，书后附有教学时间分配表与教学大纲。
本教材是十余位教师在繁忙的教学工作之余，挤出时间来完成编写的。由于时间及水平有限，书中难免会有一定的缺点和错误，还望各位同行、专家和广大师生们在使用本书的过程中及时发现并善意指出，我们将诚恳接受，尽早勘正，并使本书在再版时尽可能达到
