成年早期阶段的注意力缺失
28岁的贝克，小学四年级时便被形容为易分心、安定不下来且不专注。
他上过两年中学，但没有毕业。之后去当研磨宝石的学徒，但6个月后便中
断了工作，并开始嗑药，还和一位刚认识四个月的年轻女子结婚。
贝克不断换工作，常有违法行为(开快车、嗑药、身体受伤、免服兵役
、坐牢)，一再离开家人，并且搬来搬去，社交情况受其爱与人争执的性格
影响极大。他不但易怒、有攻击行为的倾向，还经常变更生活目标，没多久
便突然出现新念头或改变决定(如新的职业训练、移居外国)。很难长期和家
人、亲戚或朋友建立与维持关系。
贝克与他人的互动行为相当程度说明了注意力缺失的模式。即考虑不周
、爱幻想、具危险性。此外，他总会与亲近的人(如家人、邻居)不断产生冲
突。
不利发展在研究注意力缺失儿童长大后的心理状态时，可清楚看到伴
随注意力缺失而来的负面发展，注意力缺失儿童、青少年，直到成年早期仍
有显著的行为问题，特别是长期的人际冲突、持续的不安、突然变更的人生
抉择、冲突的互动、不稳定的生涯规划、少有一致性的目标。再者，这些人
很少有满意的社交关系。
其他对注意力缺失的长期追踪，多半指出与反社会行为、受教育困难、
吸毒及药物滥用有关。Lambert在1988年对小学生的注意力缺失演变的研究
中，也证实这一点。她以三组17～18岁青少年的心理状态来比较：
166位青少年在孩童时期被诊断为多动，并使用药物治疗。
74位青少年虽有多动现象，但无多动的诊断或药物治疗。
127位青少年在孩童时期并无特殊问题．并且上同一所学校(控制组)。
心理状态是由父母、老师及当事人自己推论得知。那些在孩童时被诊断
为多动并加以治疗的青少年，与控制组的孩子(当时行为不引人注意的孩子)
特别不同处是：
在学校的表现与发展上(如上特殊学校的几率较高、休学、没上大专)
。
接受教育的情形(如离家出走、未与父母同住、需要教育辅助、被送到
医疗院所、因犯罪行为被告)。
心理状态(如具攻击性、接受日间留院以及住院的心理治疗、受教育困
难)。
类似结果也出现在第二组(当时多动，但未经诊断与治疗的青少年)，他
们青春期时常易吸毒。
因此，注意力缺失证实对个人发展有严重的负面影响，药物的治疗只能
些微改善，这类发展过程也经由其他的长期研究获得证实。P21-22
