我想画一本《手外科手术图谱》已经很久了，因为手术图谱比单纯文字描述更直观、更清晰，便于初学者一步步掌握手术过程，也便于专业医生进一步提高，掌握难度更高的复杂手术。从20世纪80年代初期我已经开夜车画了不少。那时我的儿子还不到10岁，他用幼稚的笔迹给我立下了“军令状”，要求我必须在两年内完成，但人在中年的我却尚无暇坐下来著书立说。如今我的儿子已经成长为一名骨科大夫，而我也对以往已经画好的部分感到不够满意，立意退休后重新开始。
未曾想到，癌症突然向我袭来，并已到了晚期。我必须和时间赛跑，假如我还能坐起来，假如我的手还不抖，我必须把它完成，献给我深爱的事业，献给一直支持爱护我的家人，也献给我的学生，并通过他们献给那些需要我们帮助的病人。
假如我的时间不够，不能完成一部完整的、系统的手外科手术图谱的话，那么，就命名为《韦加宁手术图谱拾零》吧!好在近几年来我已为23位朋友主编的专著画了部分章节内容，把它们汇集起来，以便手术时查阅方便。

Author Description

韦加宁，1938年4月5日出生在广西南宁。1961年毕业于武汉同济医学院医疗系。同年被分配到北京积水潭医院从事手外科工作。1972年1月10日他与李良平大夫合作成功地完成了世界第一例同体断足移植手术；1975年12月28日首创我国第一例同体拇指移植手术；1978年《周围神经损伤的束间神经移植》获北京科技成果奖；《手部支具的临床研究》分别于1981和1983年两次获卫生部科技成果二等奖；从1978年至2000年与同事合作获国家级、部级及北京市局级科技成果奖七项。1986年被破格晋升为主任医师；1987年任北京医科大学副教授；1990年任正教授；1994年任北京医科大学研究生导师；1983年和1990年在美国密歇根州立大学医学院手外科研究室和肯塔基州路易斯威尔手外科中心任客座研究员；并在国内多家医学院担任技术顾问和客座教授。2002年5月16日他被诊断为晚期胃癌，在重病期间他趴在医院的小餐桌上用顽强的毅力绘制了一部《韦加宁手外科手术图谱》。2003年3月27日，人事部、卫生部授予他医务界最高荣誉奖“白求恩奖章”；2003年4月8日，北京市委、市政府授予他“人民好医生”荣誉称号。2003年“五一”节前全国总工会和北京市总工会又分别授予他“全国五一劳动奖章”和“首都五一劳动奖章”。此前，他先后被授予全国科技大会奖、国家级有突出贡献的专家、北京市白求恩式医务工作者、北京市劳动模范、优秀共产党员和先进工作者等光荣称号。2003年4月9日他画完了最后一幅画。三天后于4月13日凌晨4点07分去世，终年65岁。从医42年，他共完成了五万多例手术，撰写了40多篇论文，参加了23部骨科、手外科专著的编写工作。在书稿和病历中绘制了数以万计的手术图谱。为全国各地带教了四百多名手外科专业进修医生，其中多数已成为科主任及学科带头人。
