上海交通大学医学院的前身——上海第二医科大学是一所优秀的保留法语作为传统教学语种的大学。这不仅是组成上海第二医科大学之一的震旦大学是法国人所建，也不仅是一批能讲法语的教师在上海第二医科大学的继任工作，更重要的是法语作为一种工具，可以学习法国医学先进技术和法国医学教育先进经验。
改革开放三十年以来，上海交通大学医学院的法语班不断得到发展。医学院以极大的热情首先与巴黎第五大学建立校际关系，1997年又将这种合作纳入中法两国A项文化交流。我们法语班也经历了六年制、七年制和八年制的不断进步。不管毕业生是授予何种学位，学生都有机会赴法各大学或医院进修。
法语班的毕业生，尤其是赴法学习归来的青年学者，继承了前辈著名专家、教授的治学传统，也接过了前辈“手编油印”的“第一版”法语医学教材，克服各种困难，不辞辛劳，为推动医学教育特别是法语医学教育的发展，组织编写这套临床系列的法语医学教材。这套教材尽可能使用纯正的法语文体编写，既反映法国在国际上的医学水平，也结合我国、我院的实际，以利于我院法语班，以及使用法语进行医学教育的学院提高医学教育水平。
